Recently, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the list of newly elected Fellows for 2026, and Dang Zhimin, a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), was elected.

Dang Zhimin

Dang Zhimin is a tenured professor in EEA, Tsinghua University, a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and the chief scientist of National Key R&D Program projects and major national science and technology projects. His main research directions are advanced energy electrical materials and devices. He has long focused on application-oriented fundamental research on the structure and properties of dielectric polymer materials, carrying out coordinated innovation from microscopic dielectric theory to macroscopic device applications. In particular, he has achieved a series of distinctive and systematic innovative results in areas such as fully domestically produced dry-type DC capacitor polypropylene materials and devices, high-energy-density dielectric polymer materials and high-energy-storage film capacitors, dielectric elastomers and their soft intelligent devices, promoting the development of China’s power equipment and new soft intelligent devices, and serving major national needs.

Professor Dang Zhimin has successively led more than 40 major projects, including National Key R&D Programs, National Major Science and Technology Projects for Smart Grids, and National Major Scientific Instrument Development Projects. He has published more than 480 papers in journals such as Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering and Nature Communications, including two papers each cited over 1,000 times in SCI, with more than 23,000 SCI citations in total and an H-index of 83. He has been consecutively selected for 12 years as an Elsevier China Highly Cited Researcher, and for four consecutive years among the world’s top 100,000 scientists. He has published six monographs in Chinese and English, and currently serves as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the international journal IET Nanodielectrics. He is also an IET Fellow, a Fellow of the China Electrotechnical Society, an Executive Council Member of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials, and Chair of the Specialized Committee on Dielectric Polymer Composites and Applications. He has received multiple science and technology awards, including the First Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award and the First Prize of the Beijing Natural Science Award. Citation: For contributions to development on advanced dielectric polymer materials and devices.

About IEEE Fellow

IEEE is an international professional association of electrical, electronic, and information science engineers, founded in 1963 and headquartered in New York City, USA. IEEE has more than 420,000 members and 39 technical societies in over 160 countries and regions, leading the development of technologies in areas such as signal and information processing, electrical engineering, electronics, computing, communications, control, remote sensing, biomedicine, intelligent transportation, and space.

IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership within IEEE and is selected annually by IEEE peer experts from among Senior Members. Candidates must have made significant contributions to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology and delivered substantial value to society. The number of Fellows elected each year does not exceed one thousandth (1‰) of the total IEEE membership for that year, and thus those elected are outstanding scholars who have achieved important accomplishments in the fields of science and engineering.
