Since 2017, Tsinghua University has implemented a comprehensive enrollment by large categories of disciplines. The Department of Electrical Engineering belongs to the energy category and is also the management department in the energy category. In 2018, Tsinghua University's energy category includes two major orientations: electrical engineering and its automation (including energy internet international class) and energy & power engineering (including Beacon-Fire class), with the planned enrollment sizes of 120 and 40 students, respectively.
The Department of Electrical Engineering enrolls about 120 undergraduates nationwide in four classes every year. All undergraduates are trained in the first-level discipline of Electrical Engineering and Automation, with a four year education system. Its goal is to train interdisciplinary personnel who have firm basic theories and wide knowledge and are competent for high-level teaching, scientific researches and engineering technology.
After graduation, the vast majority of undergraduates in the Department of Electrical Engineering can choose to continue their studies in universities at home and abroad. About 2/3 of them can be recommended to study for master's and doctor's degree in this Department or other departments without examination. Few students choose employment, and the overall employment rate remains above 95%.
