On July 7, the annual meeting and committee meeting of the Tsinghua University (Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics, EEA) - Anhui USEM Technology Co., Ltd. Flexible Compressed Air Energy Storage Joint Research Center was successfully held at the West Main Building of Tsinghua University. The meeting focused on the center’s progress, future plans, and talent cultivation, mapping out a new blueprint for collaboration.
EEA Dean Kang Chongqing, EEA faculty members Mei Shengwei, Chen Laijun, Wei Wei, Cui Sen, as well as USEM Chairman Dr. Chen Renfeng, Vice General Manager Zheng Tianwen, Liu Manjun, Wang Kang, and other committee members attended the meeting. The session was chaired by Vice Dean Lu Chao.

Dr. Chen Laijun, Director of the Joint Research Center, provided a comprehensive report on the center’s background, current research progress, and future development plans. The USEM team then introduced the company’s technological breakthroughs and market strategy in the field of compressed air energy storage.
Mei Shengwei emphasized in his speech that, in the face of fierce competition for technological leadership in compressed air energy storage, both parties should fully leverage their strengths in basic research and engineering applications, collaborate in tackling key challenges, and strive for original breakthroughs in flexible compressed air energy storage core technologies. He called for accelerating the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements and leading the industry’s leapfrog development.
Dr. Chen Renfeng, Chairman of USEM and Director of the Joint Research Center’s Committee, reflected fondly on the support from his alma mater and highlighted the significant achievements made through the collaboration with the Joint Research Center. He noted that the company had led the development of a megawatt-class compressed air energy storage system solution with internationally leading efficiency, making significant innovations in key equipment, system integration, and regulation, and receiving numerous accolades. Dr. Chen expressed the expectation to deepen the integration of industry, academia, and research with the university, particularly in the innovation of compressed air energy storage applications in various scenarios and the cultivation of high-level interdisciplinary talent.
Kang Chongqing delivered the closing remarks, highly affirming the center’s key role in advancing flexible compressed air energy storage technologies. He pointed out that this aligns with the national energy transition and "dual carbon" strategic goals. Kang encouraged the team to overcome key technological bottlenecks, expand application capabilities, and lead the technology to new breakthroughs. He also suggested strengthening the output of high-level academic achievements to significantly enhance the center's academic influence and industrial leadership.
The technical discussion session further clarified the key cooperation directions and implementation paths for both parties in the coming year, focusing on core technology breakthroughs, innovation talent cultivation, and platform capability building.
