At a critical moment for the nationwide in-depth study and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourse on “education, science, and talent are the foundational and strategic supports for building a modern socialist country,” Southern Power Grid Company, in collaboration with the School of Continuing Education and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University, launched the "Southern Power Grid Company 2025 Technology Leadership Talent Training Program" on June 17. This training program marks another important practice of deepening the collaboration between Southern Power Grid Company and Tsinghua University. Following the successful launch of the first session in October 2024, both parties once again joined hands to explore deeper cooperation in the fields of "industry-education integration and innovation-driven development." The program organizes 50 technology leadership talents from Southern Power Grid for nearly two weeks of training at Tsinghua University. Through a curriculum system of “theory for the soul, practice for empowerment, and culture for strength,” it aims to build a talent team to support industry transformation and lay the foundation for constructing a world-class enterprise.

Leaders and guests attending the opening ceremony included Wang Jigong, Vice President of the Party School of Southern Power Grid, Zheng Zedong, Party Secretary of EEA, Li Senlin, Deputy Director of the School of Continuing Education, Liu Yang, Deputy Director of the Technical Skills Teaching and Research Training Department of Southern Power Grid’s Talent Development Center, and others. The ceremony was hosted by Zhu Huili, Party Committee Member of the School of Continuing Education and Director of the Central Enterprise Learning Center. Various parties jointly kicked off the program, which deepens the school-enterprise integration and cultivates energy technology talents.

Li Senlin started his speech by addressing “Intelligence for New Journeys, Culture for Empowerment.” He profoundly elaborated on the topic of talent development in the new era. Citing Whitehead’s philosophical conclusion in "The Aims of Education," he emphasized that technology leadership talents must not only excel in their professional fields but also deeply comprehend Tsinghua University’s motto of "Self-discipline and social commitment." He encouraged participants to embrace the university’s tradition of "actions speak louder than words" and experience the cultural atmosphere of "a melody performed in the lotus pond moonlight," through immersive learning experiences, enabling them to transition from “technical experts” to “strategic talents.” This will allow them to face the challenges of the era with broad knowledge, integrity, and innovation.

Zheng Zedong systematically presented the "innovation ecosystem" formed over the 93-year history of EEA. As one of Tsinghua University’s earliest engineering departments, it has achieved internationally leading results in fields such as new energy development and smart grids, supported by its "One Department, Two Institutes, One Laboratory, One Alliance" structural framework. He cited the achievements of the department’s first head, Gu Yuxiu, a giant in electrical engineering and humanities, to explain the unique educational feature of Tsinghua University that integrates engineering with humanities. He expressed hope that participants would drive the deep integration of power grid practices and university research through laboratory teaching and collaborative projects with enterprises, addressing "bottleneck" technologies with a sense of responsibility and leadership.

Wang Jigong emphasized that in the critical period of building a world-class enterprise, technology leadership talents must shoulder the mission with the perspective of "the country’s major issues." First, by laying a foundation with political ability and refining "political three powers" through the spirit of scientists, they must practice energy security in power grid construction with a practical work style. Second, by breaking through boundaries with innovation ability, they must focus on professional frontiers and build a complete innovation system, promoting deep integration between industry, academia, research, and application. Third, by empowering with digital capabilities, they must actively embrace the AI revolution, creating industry benchmark applications across various scenarios and assisting the company in achieving digital transformation. Fourth, by strengthening lifelong learning, they must adapt to international strategies using the method of "extensive learning, careful inquiry, and critical thinking," improving core competitiveness in global energy competition. He also emphasized that participants must strictly follow the full closed-loop management discipline, avoid violations, and complete "technical charging, strategic expansion" with political awareness, injecting "Southern Power Grid strength" into the construction of a powerful energy nation.

The launch of this training program marks a shift from top-level design to in-depth implementation in the cooperation between Southern Power Grid and Tsinghua University, becoming a vivid model for central enterprises to practice the integration of education, science, and talent. As part of Southern Power Grid’s “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Project,” this initiative constructs a collaborative mechanism based on "highland universities and fertile enterprise grounds," forming a closed-loop training system of “theoretical arming, practical tempering, and cultural immersion.” With 50 technology leaders completing systematic training at Tsinghua, Southern Power Grid will accelerate the transformation of talent advantages into innovation and competitive advantages, ensuring talent support for building a new type of power system, serving the “dual carbon” goals, and contributing to the building of a powerful energy nation with the "central enterprise, serving the Party, and contributing to science and technology" in this new era.
