
From May 17 to 18, the 3rd Asian Power Electronics Student Forum and Academic Presentation Contest (SSPEL-Asia) was successfully held. This student forum was jointly organized by the IEEE PELS China Chapter Membership Committee, the International Exchange Working Committee of the China Power Supply Society, and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University; it was hosted by the IEEE PELS Tsinghua University Student Branch, co-organized by IEEE PELS student branches from over ten domestic universities, and supported by media including iEnergy and the Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering. The event was held in a hybrid format, attracting more than 80 students and young faculty members from seven countries/regions including China, the UK, Japan, and Singapore.

On the afternoon of May 17, the opening ceremony of the student forum was successfully held. Speeches were delivered by IEEE PELS Vice Chair Xu Dehong, IEEE PELS Asia-Pacific Chair Sanjib Kumar Panda, IEEE PELS China Committee Chair Sun Kai, and Party Secretary Zheng Zedong of EEA at Tsinghua University. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhang Kai, Chair of the IEEE PELS Tsinghua University Student Branch. Also attending were the 24 judges for the academic presentation contest and all participating students.

Guest Speeches
After the opening ceremony, the expert report session was hosted by Sun Kai. Professor Xu Dehong from Zhejiang University, Professor Josep M. Guerrero from Huanjiang Laboratory, and Associate Professor Takanori Isobe from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, gave lectures. The three experts discussed various hot topics and development trends in power electronics from a fresh, international perspective. During the interactive exchange, students actively raised questions, and the experts patiently answered, sharing valuable experiences on research directions, technical details, and personal growth.

Expert Reports and Interaction
Following the expert reports, the academic presentation contest officially commenced, with 48 students from 25 universities competing for awards. The contest was divided into eight parallel sessions, and 25 expert judges, including Professors Li Yongdong, He Jinwei, Tang Yu, Xu Jianzhong, Qi Xin, Guo Zhiqiang, Li Kai, Jin Zheming, Jia Pengyu, Cao Guoen, Xu Fei, Yang Yanyong, and Xu Xiaona, provided fair and comprehensive evaluations of the students’ presentations. The contest was vibrant and exciting, with contestants and expert judges engaging in thorough discussions on the latest achievements in power electronics.

Academic Presentation Contest
After two hours of fierce competition, the contest selected eight “Best Presentation Awards” and eight “Best Innovation Awards.” The award ceremony was hosted by Deputy Party Secretary Yu Zhanqing of EEA. Yu Zhanqing sincerely congratulated the winners and encouraged the young scholars to firmly root themselves, strive upward, and work together for the development of power electronics.
