On the morning of May 17, the opening ceremony of the “Tsinghua University–IET Electrical Engineering Academic Forum” and the 779th Tsinghua University Doctoral Student Academic Forum was grandly held in Beijing. The theme of this forum was “Artificial Intelligence Empowering Electrical Engineering.” Leaders and guests attending the opening ceremony included: Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University; Party Secretary Zheng Zedong of the Department; several other faculty members; Paulo Lopes, Director of IET China; Colin Sellers, Director of Professional Accreditation at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK; IEEE Fellow and Professor Josep M. Guerrero from Huanjiang Laboratory; Professor Gao Fei from the University of Belfort-Montbéliard, France; Huang Zhengxing, Associate Dean of Electrical Engineering at Xinjiang University; Zhu Yuhao, Associate Professor at the School of Energy and Electrical Engineering, Qinghai University; Liu Zhiyuan, Tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Tsinghua University; invited guest Lin Pengfeng, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Zhang Xiujuan, Deputy Director of Marketing Strategy Department at Siyuan Electric Co., Ltd.; Jin Hui, Chief Engineer of the AI Department at Siyuan Hongrui; Liu Fengkui, Director of the Graduate School at China Electric Power Research Institute; and representatives from the editorial offices of Electric Power Automation Equipment and iEnergy journals. In addition, more than 380 representatives from over 10 universities and research institutes including the University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, and Imperial College London participated in the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Party Secretary of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics at Tsinghua University.

Speech by Kang Chongqing

In his speech, Kang Chongqing pointed out that this forum, themed on artificial intelligence empowering electrical engineering, closely follows the forefront of the times and highlights the deep integration of electrical engineering and AI disciplines. He emphasized that the forum is not only a platform for academic exchange but also an important carrier for cultivating future innovative talents. Kang also expressed gratitude to the faculty and students who actively prepared the forum.

Speech by Paulo Lopes

Paulo Lopes briefly introduced the recent development of the IET globally and in China, affirmed the long-term cooperation achievements with Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering, and expressed hope for continued in-depth collaboration in artificial intelligence and electrical engineering. Following his speech, an IET Academic Partner plaque awarding ceremony was held. Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering was honored as an “IET Academic Partner,” with Paulo Lopes representing IET China and Professor Kang Chongqing jointly attending the ceremony.

Keynote Report by Liu Zhiyuan

Liu Zhiyuan delivered a keynote titled “Towards General Artificial Intelligence,” introducing the latest explorations and practical achievements in the AI field.

Keynote Report by Lin Pengfeng

Lin Pengfeng gave a keynote report titled “Data-Driven Large-Signal Stability Control of DC Grid Networking and the Generation, Transmission, and Annihilation of Inertia,” summarizing the current trends and challenges in digital intelligence development from the perspective of AI technology applications.

Keynote Report by Jin Hui

Jin Hui’s keynote, “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Power Systems,” shared the applications and impacts of AI technology in the power industry.

Keynote Report by Gao Fei

Professor Gao Fei presented a report titled “Understanding the Peer-Review Process of International Journals—A Detailed Walkthrough,” deeply analyzing the various stages and key details of the international journal peer-review process and offering practical advice on improving manuscript quality and acceptance rates.

Keynote Report by Colin Sellers

Following this, Colin Sellers, Director of Professional Accreditation at IET, introduced the process for becoming an IET Fellow or Chartered Engineer to the attending faculty and students.

The keynote sessions featured lively interactions with enthusiastic questions from students, creating a strong academic atmosphere. During the mid-ceremony segment, all guests, faculty, and students took a group photo.

From the afternoon of May 17 to the morning of May 18, the forum entered the parallel session phase, with 12 thematic sub-forums established, including applications of AI in electrical engineering, planning and operation of new power systems and control protection, power electronic devices, packaging, and system integration. Nearly 100 doctoral students presented their research results in both Chinese and English and engaged in deep exchanges with judges, experts, and peers.

On the afternoon of May 17, a poster presentation session was held concurrently, where students actively shared their research progress and engaged in lively discussion and exchange.

To strengthen faculty-student interaction and ideological education, a faculty-student symposium was specially held during the forum. Teachers from EEA communicated with students about growth and development. Siyuan Electric held a special briefing introducing the company’s development history, core businesses, technical advantages, and talent cultivation system, welcoming outstanding graduates to join and jointly promote technological progress and industrial development in the energy and power sector.

On the evening of May 17, EEA hosted a faculty-student symposium with the School of Electrical Engineering at Xinjiang University and the School of Energy and Electrical Engineering at Qinghai University. Professor Kang Chongqing, Party Secretary Zheng Zedong, and other teachers from Tsinghua exchanged views with Huang Zhengxing, Associate Dean of Electrical Engineering at Xinjiang University, Chen Laijun, Associate Dean of the School of Energy and Electrical Engineering at Qinghai University, and representatives of faculty and students, sharing teaching experiences and research insights.

Additionally, the forum organizing committee arranged a variety of cultural and sports activities, allowing students to relax and communicate after intensive research work, aiding their all-round development.

This forum was a great success, providing a high-level academic exchange platform for young scholars in electrical engineering and promoting the deep integration and innovative development of artificial intelligence technology in the electrical engineering field.
