On March 27, the Department of Electrical Engineering held its 2025 Annual Research Team Evaluation Meeting and Spring Semester Strategic Retreat. The meeting featured in-depth discussions on topics including the 2025 work progress and future development goals of research teams, as well as the Department’s 15th Five-Year Development Plan and disciplinary development strategy. Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department; Zheng Zedong, Secretary of the Department Party Committee; and He Jinliang, Chair of the Department Academic Committee, attended the meeting together with Academic Committee members, members of the joint Party and administrative leadership meeting, and heads of research teams.

The research team evaluation meeting was chaired by Zheng Zedong. He emphasized that while paying attention to overall performance, this annual evaluation further highlighted two key indicators: representative achievements and team development. He required each team to report its development goals for the 15th Five-Year Plan period based on actual circumstances, in order to support the high-quality development of the Department’s research teams as a whole. Heads of the research teams presented work reports in sequence and participated in on-site questions and discussions. The reports covered personnel composition, research directions, major projects, significant achievements, industry-university-research collaboration, engineering applications, talent cultivation, and other aspects of team development.
The spring semester strategic retreat was chaired by Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of the Department. Zheng Zedong delivered opening remarks, emphasizing that the 15th Five-Year Plan period will be a critical stage for the Department of Electrical Engineering in advancing toward the forefront of world-class excellence. He stressed the need to align with major national strategic needs, uphold Party-building leadership, and systematically coordinate core elements including faculty development, research planning, talent cultivation, and internationalization strategies through forward-looking planning and integrated advancement.
Sun Kai presented the preliminary draft of the Department’s 15th Five-Year Development Plan. Since November 2025, in accordance with university-wide arrangements, the Department has established a planning task force composed of members of the joint Party and administrative leadership meeting together with faculty representatives. The task force recently completed the preliminary draft plan, which covers Party building, disciplinary development, faculty development, education and teaching, scientific research, social service, international cooperation, cultural heritage, and resource support.

During the discussion session, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics including disciplinary direction planning, faculty structure optimization, recruitment of young talent, cross-team collaboration mechanisms, coordinated development between departments and state key laboratories, and international platform construction. The meeting also arranged specific tasks related to AI disciplinary engine platform development, applications for scientific research innovation platforms, and organization of major projects.

He Jinliang noted that the 15th Five-Year Development Plan must not only address present needs but also look toward the future. He emphasized the importance of further refining disciplinary strengths, strengthening unity and collaboration, taking national needs as guidance, and using major projects as support to promote high-quality disciplinary development within the Department of Electrical Engineering.
In his concluding remarks, Kang Chongqing stated that the meeting represented an important occasion for charting the development path of the Department during the 15th Five-Year Plan period and building broad consensus. In terms of education, he stressed the need to fulfill the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, encourage faculty participation in residential college initiatives, and create synergies in talent cultivation. Scientific research should focus on “major platforms, major projects, and major achievements,” with efforts devoted to enhancing the planning and organizational capabilities required for tackling major national strategic challenges. The Department should fully leverage the integrated collaborative advantages of the “one department, two institutes, one laboratory, and one alliance” framework to accelerate the establishment of a full-chain innovation ecosystem.
Kang Chongqing emphasized that the 15th Five-Year Development Plan is of vital importance to the future development of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Further in-depth discussion and study are needed to ensure clear objectives and well-defined implementation pathways, thereby providing strategic guidance for the Department’s future development.
