Recently, Elsevier officially released the 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list. Fifteen faculty members from the Department of Electrical Engineering—Dang Zhimin, He Jinliang, Hu Zechun, Kang Chongqing, Liu Feng, Mei Shengwei, Song Qiang, Sun Kai, Wei Wei, Wu Wenchuan, Xia Qing, Xie Xiaorong, Zhang Ning, Zhao Biao, and Zhong Haiwang—were selected for the list in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Among the universities represented on the 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list, Tsinghua University had 278 scholars selected, while a total of 141 scholars nationwide were selected in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Through the release of the Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list, Elsevier aims not only to systematically present the current distribution of research talent across China’s scientific community, but also to accurately reflect the disciplinary strengths and academic influence of various institutions and universities, as well as leading talent in key technological research areas and priority fields. A total of 6,310 scholars were included in the 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list, representing 543 universities, enterprises, and research institutions and covering 10 disciplinary categories and 83 first-level disciplines defined by the Ministry of Education.

The selection criteria for Elsevier’s 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list include the following: authors must have research outputs indexed by Scopus with affiliations located in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), and their current employing institutions must also be located in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), including non-Chinese and non-ethnic Chinese scholars; only research outputs published by these scholars as first author or corresponding author are counted; and the research outputs are classified according to the Ministry of Education’s first-level disciplinary classification system. The number of scholars selected in each discipline is correlated with the number of authors affiliated with Chinese institutions in that discipline indexed by Scopus. In addition, the publications included in the evaluation for listed scholars (as first author or corresponding author) must satisfy the following conditions: more than one indexed publication; total citation counts reaching the disciplinary threshold; at least one paper ranked among the top 1% most-cited papers globally; or an overall FWCI above 1 for publications authored as first author or corresponding author.
