On May 21, the Labor Union of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) successfully hosted the “Igniting Youth, Walking with Stars” special event. The event featured a special guest, Zou Yang, an outstanding alumnus who was promoted from Tsinghua’s men’s basketball team to the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association), coming back to interacted with nearly 40 faculty members and students. He shared insights into his career growth and led basketball training, providing strong motivation for the upcoming 2025 faculty basketball competition training sessions.

The event began with a welcome speech by Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Secretary of the EEA Party Committee, who highly praised Zou Yang’s growth journey. Yu noted that Zou Yang exemplified Tsinghua’s educational philosophy of “emphasizing both physical fitness and character,” and described him as an all-around “warrior” who transitioned from the Tsinghua men’s basketball team to the national team, vividly showcasing Tsinghua’s spirit of all-around development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.

In the subsequent interactive session, Zou Yang shared details of the daily high-intensity training of a professional basketball player, his “secrets” for adjusting his mindset during key games, and his personal journey of transitioning from a Tsinghua student to a professional athlete. His sincere sharing resonated strongly with the attending faculty and students.

The most anticipated part of the event was when Zou Yang led the participants through a basketball training session, providing a professional-level training experience. From basic warm-ups, running, dribbling, and shooting, to more tactical training like fast-break coordination and zone defense strategy, Zou Yang offered detailed guidance and personal demonstrations. He gave targeted feedback to each participant, helping them solidify their fundamentals, unleash their potential, and better understand the importance of teamwork. After the training, Zou Yang warmly took photos with each participant, and the atmosphere was lively.

Zou Yang entered Tsinghua University in 2018 and became a key player for the Tsinghua University men’s basketball team. He led the team to three national championships in the Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBA) and was awarded the MVP of the 24th CUBA Finals. In 2023, he was selected for the Chinese Men’s Basketball Short Training Camp and successfully entered the CBA. In his CBA debut, he amazed the audience by contributing 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in 27 minutes, becoming the first player in CBA history to achieve a double-double in his debut game.

The “Igniting Youth, Walking with Stars” event is a vivid practice of the “integration of sports and education” concept. Zou Yang, as an outstanding alumnus, shared his valuable professional experience with the campus sports community, perfectly reflecting the transmission of Tsinghua’s sports spirit across generations.
