From April 15 to 16, a delegation from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University visited Xi’an for academic exchange and alumni outreach. The delegation included Department Dean Kang Chongqing, Party Secretary Zheng Zedong, Deputy Party Secretary Yu Zhanqing, Associate Department Deans Lu Chao and Zhang Pinjia, Gao Wensheng (Deputy Director of the Tsinghua Energy Internet Innovation Institute, Beijing), Liu Yi (Deputy Director of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute), Zhang Bo (Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory for Operation and Control of New-Type Power Systems), as well as over ten faculty and staff from the department and its affiliated institutes and laboratory.
On April 15, the delegation first visited the Northwest Branch of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). Li Yonglai, Deputy Chief Engineer of SGCC and Director & Deputy Party Secretary of the Northwest Branch, along with Deputy Director Fan Yue and heads of various departments—Development, Grid Technology Support, Office, Equipment, Dispatch, and Safety—attended the meeting. The delegation toured the dispatch hall and gained insights into the development of renewable energy, grid planning, and HVDC transmission in the Northwest Grid. During the forum, the Tsinghua team introduced the organizational structure and strengths of the “One Department, Two Institutes, One Laboratory, One Alliance” framework. The Northwest Branch shared updates on its scientific and technological innovation work, and faculty members presented their respective research areas and expressed interest in future collaboration.


On the morning of April 16, the delegation visited the State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company. Chairman and Party Secretary Zhang Xuehong, Deputy General Manager Luo Jianyong, and representatives from key departments—including Equipment, Office, Development, Science and Technology, Digitalization, Dispatch and Control, Research, Economic Research Institute, ICT, and Customer Services—attended the exchange. The company presented its recent achievements in technological innovation, while representatives from the Department of Electrical Engineering, the National Key Lab, and the two research institutes shared their latest technical advancements. The discussions focused on areas such as planning for new-type power systems, AI, HVDC and power electronics, energy storage, digital grid technologies, and power-carbon coupling in electricity markets.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited XD Group. Chairman Zhao Yongzhi, General Manager Zhu Qiqi, Deputy General Manager Xie Qingfeng, and leaders from the Technology Department, Power System Company, Research Institute, Baoguang Co., Xitao, Xibian, Xigao Institute, Xikai, the Power Electronics Company, and Xikai Electric attended the exchange. The meeting centered on potential cooperation in HVDC transmission, energy storage, power electronic transformers, converter transformers, arc extinguishing chambers, high-voltage switches, and other cutting-edge technologies.

Also on April 15, Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA and President of the EEA Sub-Association of Tsinghua Alumni Association, along with Zheng Zedong, Party Secretary of EEA and Vice President of the Sub-Association, and Yu Zhanqing Deputy Party Secretary of EEA and Secretary-General of the Sub-Association, met with local alumni in Xi’an. Mr. Kang expressed appreciation for the alumni’s contributions to the Northwest region and thanked them for their longstanding support of Tsinghua’s development. He also provided updates on the department’s progress in discipline development, talent cultivation, and scientific innovation. Alumni and faculty discussed the possibility of forming a regional alumni organization and strengthening the chapter’s structure to better support the alma mater’s initiatives.
