On the afternoon of April 17, the award ceremony for the “Tsinghua Friends – Orient Cable Talent Scholarship” was successfully held in the West Main Building conference room. Attending the ceremony were Yue Junjie, Executive CEO of Orient Cable, Party Committee member and Trade Union Chairman Hu Bohui and his delegation, Zheng Zedong, Party Secretary of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Deputy Party Secretary Yu Zhanqing, Head of the Graduate Student Work Group Zhong Haiwang, Assistant Department Dean and Office Director Hu Wei. Relevant department leaders from Orient Cable Co., Ltd. and the scholarship-winning students from EEA were also present. The meeting was chaired by Zhong Haiwang.

Zheng Zedong, on behalf of all faculty and students of EEA, warmly welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude to Ningbo Orient Cable Co., Ltd. for their consistent strong support in scholarship donations, practice base construction, and employment development for the department’s students. He further emphasized the hope for future strengthened collaboration in scientific research, joint exploration and development, and promotion of new energy advancement.

Yue Junjie first congratulated the scholarship recipients and encouraged them to innovate boldly and dedicate themselves to research. He then introduced Orient Cable Co., Ltd.’s development, corporate philosophy, innovative spirit, vision, and talent cultivation model. He concluded by urging the students present to continually pursue excellence and contribute to the high-quality development of China’s national industry and private enterprises.

Yu Zhanqing presented an overview of the scholarship recipients, detailed the evaluation process of the Orient Cable Talent Scholarship, and reviewed the fruitful outcomes achieved by doctoral students during their required practice at the Orient Cable practice base in recent years. He noted that the scholarship plays a significant role in motivating student growth and development, and the various positions provided by the practice base offer strong support for students in clarifying career directions and planning their futures.

Following this, Yue Junjie and Zheng Zedong presented award certificates to the recipients.

Representatives of the award-winning students gave speeches in turn, expressing their gratitude to Orient Cable Co., Ltd., introducing their backgrounds and research focuses, and discussing their future development and specific scientific questions with the attending guests.

Yue Junjie congratulated the awardees again, introduced recent R&D achievements of Orient Cable Co., Ltd., and expressed high expectations for the students.

Ningbo Orient Cable Co., Ltd. is a core supplier of China’s land and sea cables and has long been an industry leader in technological innovation, quality management, and core technological breakthroughs. It currently operates three major industrial sectors: power engineering and equipment cables (green power transmission facilities), submarine cables and high-voltage cables (power and new energy), and marine equipment and engineering operations and maintenance (deep-sea technology). In 2021, it co-established a graduate student social practice base with EEA and set up the “Tsinghua Friends – Orient Cable Talent Scholarship,” awarding 20 outstanding graduate students from the department annually.
