On April 26, the first alumni forum of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) themed “Sails Return from a Long Voyage, Passing on the Spirit of Electrical Engineering,” along with the “Add E Plan,” was grandly held at the West Main Building of Tsinghua University. The event was hosted by the EEA Alumni Association and co-organized by the Department’s Youth League Committee, Student Union, Graduate Student League Committee, and Graduate Student Union. This forum gathered outstanding alumni, experts, scholars, and current faculty and students from the power and energy sector to jointly explore cutting-edge industry trends and inherit the spirit and wisdom of Tsinghua electrical engineers.

Opening Remarks
Kang Chongqing, President of the Department of Electrical Engineering Alumni Association and Dean of the Department, stated in his speech that over its 93 years, the department has always worked diligently and innovatively, enduring hardships and entrepreneurship, focusing on the needs of national and social development. Adhering to the original mission of “educating people for the Party and cultivating talent for the country,” the department has nurtured generations of power professionals who have made continuous contributions across various industries in China, actively supporting national strategic development. He expressed hope that the “Alumni Forum” would become a strong brand by building a platform for resource sharing and win-win cooperation, regularly organizing exchanges, and gathering the vibrant power of electrical engineering to contribute to the country, the power industry, the university, and alumni development.

Retired faculty member Zhu Shouzhen (admitted in 1973), representing the 1986 class advisors, recalled fond memories of bonding with students back then, shared touching moments of interaction, expressed satisfaction with their achievements, and hoped everyone would frequently return for reunions.

Keynote Reports
The forum specially invited three senior alumni to deliver keynote reports, presenting diverse perspectives in the electrical engineering field with rich experience and profound insights.
Ouyang Changyu (admitted in 1982), Deputy Chief Engineer of State Grid Corporation of China, Party Secretary and Director of the State Grid Energy Research Institute, gave a report titled “Challenges and Opportunities of the New Power System.” He deeply analyzed the various challenges faced by the new power system in the context of the energy transition, such as large-scale integration of renewable energy and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the grid. At the same time, he keenly pointed out the huge opportunities embedded within these challenges, encouraging everyone to actively participate in building the new power system and contribute to sustainable energy development.

Wang Guanghui (admitted in 1986), President of the China Hydropower Quality Management Association and Director of the Hydropower Quality Development Research Institute, shared his unique insights on industry quality management and development based on many years of management experience. He emphasized the importance of renewing thinking patterns in the power industry and the need for individuals to build a spiritual home when facing difficulties at work, maintaining continuous learning and self-innovation to anchor future direction amid the tides of the times.

Zhang Donghui (admitted in 1992), founder of Beijing Zhongqing Zhihui Energy Technology Co., Ltd., spoke on the theme “Focus and Innovation—Technology Creates Value,” sharing his entrepreneurial journey and experiences. He explained how he adhered to focusing on core technology research and development during his startup, driving enterprise growth through continuous innovation.

After the presentations, the three guests engaged in extensive interaction and discussion with the attending faculty and students. They patiently and thoroughly answered the enthusiastic questions from the audience. The reports and interactive sessions lasted for three and a half hours.
At the conclusion of the event, EEA presented “Alumni Forum” commemorative certificates to the three guests.
This Department of Electrical Engineering Alumni Forum and “Add E Plan” was not only an academic exchange activity but also a heritage and continuation of the spirit of EEA’s community. “Sails Return from a Long Voyage, Passing on the Spirit of Electrical Engineering” — like sails returning from a distant voyage, the alumni embodied the Tsinghua spirit of “Self-discipline and Social Commitment” through their personal experiences, inspiring the new generation of electrical engineering students to study diligently, innovate bravely, and advance proactively.
