On September 1, a delegation from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics at Tsinghua University visited State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company, where they engaged in technical exchanges related to the construction of a new type power system in Gansu. The two parties also signed a letter of intent for cooperation. Participating in the visit were representatives from EEA, Tsinghua Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute, Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, and the State Key Laboratory for the Operation and Control of New Type Power Systems. Among those who participated were Zhu Guiping, Lu Zongxiang, Gao Feng, Ci Song, Chen Lei, Wang Bin, Sun Kai, Zhang Lan, Li Haibo, Li Bo, Cui Bin, and Pang Haitian.

The delegation EEA first visited the “Path to Excellence” exhibition hall at State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company, where they learned about the remarkable historical development of Gansu’s power industry and its outstanding achievements in supporting the sustainable development of new energy. Subsequently, they conducted an on-site investigation of the latest progress in Gansu’s power grid construction at the Power Dispatch and Control Center.

Following this, the delegation engaged in a discussion with senior executives from State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company, including Lin Yifan, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Board, Xiang Hongwei, Deputy General Manager, Zhang Xiaomin, a first-level employee, as well as leaders from various key departments of the company, such as the Equipment Department, Science and Technology Department, Dispatch Center, Development Business Department, Marketing Business Department, and Electric Power Research Institute. Lin Yifan extended a warm welcome to the delegation from EEA. He emphasized that Gansu Electric Power Company has attached great importance to the cooperation opportunities with EEA in recent years. During the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” and “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” periods, they successfully completed several national important scientific and technological projects in collaboration with Tsinghua University, and they jointly received the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Lin Yifan expressed heartfelt gratitude for the long-term support and assistance provided by EEA at Tsinghua University. He hoped for further deepening of cooperation in fields of scientific and technological innovation, talent development, and the creation of an exemplary model for cooperation between academia and industry. Together, they aim to explore collaborative innovation directions, achieve breakthroughs in power engineering technology, and provide strong support for realizing the “dual-carbon” goals, building a new energy system, and supporting local economic development.

Discussion between the two sides

Kang Chongqing expressed that in recent years, the “One Department, Two Institutes, One Office, One Alliance” of Tsinghua University and Gansu Electric Power Company have deepened their cooperation and achieved fruitful results. He pointed out that Gansu Province, as the “hub” of the Northwest Power Grid, the “main channel” for transmitting power from the west to the east, and a “major base” for building a new power system, has seen remarkable development in new energy. The construction of the power grid is facing unprecedented development opportunities. The collaboration between the “One Department, Two Institutes, One Office, One Alliance” of Tsinghua University and Gansu Electric Power Company will revolve around the significant needs of Gansu’s power industry, strengthen all-round cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, talent development, think tank construction, and more. They will further improve communication mechanisms, renew cooperation models, and wholeheartedly contribute Tsinghuas wisdom and strength to the construction and practical application of a new type power system in Gansu.
