Spring is returning and everything is refreshing. We are standing at a new starting point of time, and we will create a new annual ring with a grateful heart. On this occasion, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University, the Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and the Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University wish all the faculty, staff and students of the “One Department and Two Institutes” a happy new year! The past year was an extraordinary one, as the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully held, and we are moving forward bravely on the road to realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized the need to actively and steadily promote carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, further promote the energy revolution, accelerate the planning and construction of a new energy system, and protect energy security, which orient the energy development in China and put forward higher requirement for the green and low-carbon energy transition.

The past year was a year of carrying forward the past and opening a way for the future. EEA celebrated its 90th anniversary. At the new starting point towards a century, EEA has a precise layout in basic research, think tank construction, industrial incubation and open cooperation, and forges ahead in the frontline of global advanced technology by combining the medium and long-term development strategy of the University, and standing on the “one axis and two wings” architecture system of the Department.

The past year was a year of hard work. EEA’s research team achieved a new breakthrough in single-junction flexible perovskite solar cells, creating the world highest record for photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.6%; the “Voice of Think Tank”, “Xinhua Energy Salon” and “Energy Think Tank Report” hosted by Beijing Institute constitute a three-dimensional media matrix and a distinct think tank brand; Sichuan Institute was designated the first batch of industry-university-research cooperation innovation bases for “Science and Technology Innovation of China", which is a successful model of R&D institution for university-local cooperation. These achievements are the crystallization of hard work, pioneering and innovation of all colleagues.

A new year brings new hope. The color of Bauhinia flowers is shining at the Tsinghua badge. We must do at present and be optimistic about the future. We sincerely look forward to friends from all walks of life and colleagues from the “One Department and Two Institutes” working together to create greater glories in the journey of high-quality energy development and clean and low-carbon energy transition!
