On November 25, 2020, the sixth Science and Technology Award of China Power Supply Society was released. The project "Topology and Control of Multilevel Converter, R&D and Industrialization of High Voltage Variable Frequency Speed Regulation Equipment" completed with the leadership of Li Yongdong's team from EEA of Tsinghua University won the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award (Technology Development Category). The team members of EEA include: Assistant Researcher Wang Kui, Associate Professor Zheng Zedong and Associate Professor Xu Lie.

The project "Topology and Control of Multilevel Converter, R&D and Industrialization of High Voltage Variable Frequency Speed Regulation Equipment" belongs to the field of power electronics and power transmission. The key technologies developed in this project, including "Full Digital Vector Control Type H-bridge Cascaded High Voltage Frequency Converter", "Speed Sensorless H-Bridge Cascaded High Voltage Converter", "Four-quadrant H-bridge Cascaded High Voltage Converter" and so on, are at the international advanced level and applied by well-known domestic high-voltage frequency conversion enterprises, resulting in great economic and social benefits.

Li Yongdong

Li Yongdong, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics of Tsinghua University, head of the team of "Advanced Power Transformation and Electrified Transportation". The team of "Advanced Power Transformation and Electrified Transportation" is composed of a number of young and capable members who have doctor's degree at home and abroad and have been rooted in China for many years. The team has long been engaged in international cutting-edge research in the field of high-performance, large-capacity and full-digital power electronics and AC motor control, and is committed to the industrialization of research achievement, which has made outstanding contribution to energy saving, emission reduction, industrial automation and transportation electrification in China. At present, the team undertakes a number of key R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which are being generalized in the new generation of high-speed rail and all-electrified ships / aircraft carriers.
