From November 13 to November 19, the 2020 Tsinghua Faculty Table Tennis Team Competition was held in the Faculty Activity Center. A total of about 30 teams participated in this competition, and after a heated competition, EEA Team won the team champion, successfully defended its third consecutive championship, and also created the first three consecutive championships in the history of the competition. In the men's singles match on November 20 and the women's singles match on November 23, Liu Yingyan of the EEA team won the third place in the men's singles and Peng Lisha won the women's singles championship.

This competition took each department as a unit to register in the competition for mixed-doubles, women's and men's singles in group competitions and knockout competitions. EEA team was composed of Liu Yingyan, Cai Yongsheng, Ding Qingqing, Bi Daqiang, Wang Fuping, Peng Lisha, Zhao Wei, Bo Zhengkai, Li Xuebing and Lin Xinran, led by Wang Peng of the Department Labour Union.

This table tennis competition was organized by the labour union of Tsinghua University. Players of different departments, different levels and different ages competed together with their best, showing the superb sports skills and spirit of the faculty Teachers of EEA team also said that they deeply felt the passion of table tennis, the charm of competitive sports and the spirit of "No sports, No Tsinghua" through this competition.

Competition tidbits

The suspense of this competition is: will the defending champion EEA finally win the championship, thus achieving the myth of three consecutive championships, or will the powerful Department of Maths win and establish its dominant position? After a week of fierce competition, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics and the Department of Mathematics lived up to expectations and entered the finals

Two years ago, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics beat the Department of Mathematics in the final, but it mainly relied on the wisdom of Tianji's Horse Racing Strategy by skillfully lining up to avoid the strong and attack the weak. In fact, EEA is outstanding, but the male players of the Department of Mathematics are younger and more powerful. Unfortunately, the two teams completely encountered this year: two main players of each team competed in the first and last games respectively, and the third singles and fourth singles also played against each other, which was very disadvantageous to EEA. EEA had to face the difficulty and prove the quality of championship by winning a tough battle.

In the first round, Liu Yingyan of EEA played against Ai Yinghua of the Department of Mathematics, and it's a pity that Teacher Liu, who rolled over Teacher Ai at the beginning, was toughly reversed and defeated by Teacher Ai at 2:3 finally. In the second round, Cai Yongsheng of EEA played against Li Si of the Department of Mathematics. It was obvious that Li Si was superior in skill, and Teacher Cai lost at 0:3. The Department of Mathematics had won a series of games and the situation was good for them. Although Ding Qingqing of EEA won 1 score by virtue of strength in the third round, but in the fourth round, Bi Daqiang was not optimistic against Liang Heng, and everyone believed that EEA could only rely on the women's singles to avoid embarrassment, and the Department of Mathematics was in sight to win the championship. But the turning point occurred in the fourth round, Bi Daqiang recalled the hope of EEA. Teacher Bi fully liberated himself at the table, he took the lead at 2:0 in the first two games, offended and defended more reasonably in the decisive game, and he did not give the opponent any chance and pulled the two teams back to the same starting line. Wang Fuping of the EEA played against Wu Yunhui of the Department of Mathematics in the decisive round, which was the showdown that everyone was looking forward to very much. In terms of strength, Teacher Wu of the Department of Mathematics seemed to be stronger, but Teacher Wang also had the skill of killing, and the result depended on their own mentality and improvisational performance. Teacher Wang first took the lead at 2:0, and then was tied at 2:2, but in the decisive game, Teacher Wang took the initiative, and EEA won at 3:2!
