On October 24, the Electrical Engineering Department of Tsinghua University and China Salt Group successfully held the "Salt Cave Energy Storage Industry Summit Forum" in Beijing. A number of academicians and experts gathered in Beijing and discussed on the new technologies and application prospect of salt cave energy storage, and a number of new energy storage technologies around salt caves and application cases of projects under construction were unveiled at the forum, showing the broad industrial prospects in the field of salt cave energy storage. The forum was chaired by Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics of Tsinghua University and Director of Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University.

Mei Shengwei gave a keynote report

Taking the "Salt Cave Energy Storage Technology and Prospect" as the theme, Mei Shengwei, vice president of Qinghai University and professor of EEA of Tsinghua University, gave a keynote report on the history and present situation of salt cave utilization, key and new technologies of salt cave construction, particularly the hydrogen storage, helium storage, liquid flow battery and compressed air energy storage.

Zheng Fangneng delivered a speech

Zheng Fangneng, deputy director of the Major Special Project Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, pointed out in his speech that energy reserve was a rigid national demand, and salt cave energy storage, with the advantages of large energy storage capacity, clean environmental protection, and long service life, was an important technical route of energy storage. He hoped that more large-scale salt cave energy storage technologies and demonstration projects would be put into application in the future to promote the development of energy storage technology in China.

Gui Xiaoyang, deputy director of the Electric Power Department of the National Energy Administration, said that energy storage was a necessary part of comprehensive and efficient utilization of energy in China, while salt cave energy storage could make full use of undeveloped underground natural resources to realize large-scale and efficient storage of various forms of energy. He suggested that the National Test and Demonstration Project of Jintan Salt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storage could speed up the construction and play an demonstrative and leading role.

At the forum, Lu Qiang, Guo Zengyuang, Zhou Yuan and Wang Guangqian, academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tang Guangfu, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered speeches and participated in the discussion. It is agreed that salt cave energy storage has the advantages of large storage space, high storage pressure, safety, reliability, economical efficiency and so on, and China is rich in salt cave resources and mature salt cave building technology, which has laid a firm foundation for the development of salt cave energy storage industry. Large-scale energy storage technologies such as compressed air energy storage and hydrogen storage based on salt caves can well support the urgent demand for large-scale clean energy storage technology in the energy transformation of China. Salt cave hydrogen storage, helium storage, salt cave liquid flow battery and other technologies are of great significance to national energy security. It is suggested to speed up the engineering construction and popularization of salt cave compressed air energy storage demonstration project, and timely carry out the engineering demonstration and application of salt cave hydrogen storage, helium storage and salt cave liquid flow battery technology.

In his closing speech, Li Yaoqiang, Chairman and CPC committee Secretary of China Salt Group, pointed out that new technologies for salt cave energy storage, such as compressed air energy storage, hydrogen storage, helium storage, and salt cave liquid flow batteries, were conducive to promoting the optimization of energy structure and the development of clean energy, and comply with the national sustainable development and green development strategy. China Salt Group, together with Tsinghua University and colleagues in the industry, will undertake the mission of developing and improving the salt cave energy storage industry, promote the development of national clean energy, and fulfill expected social responsibilities.

A number of academicians, leaders and experts from the Department Major Special Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Electric Power Department of the National Energy Administration, the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, PetroChina Drilling Research Institute, China Salt Group, Tsinghua University, Qinghai University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Global Energy Internet Research Institute and other units attended to this forum and delivered speeches, gave positive evaluation on the new technology of salt cave energy storage, and put forward targeted opinions and suggestions on the development and application, which are of great significance to promote the technical development of salt cave compressed air energy storage and salt cave battery, accelerate the comprehensive utilization of underground salt cave resources, and realize the structural transformation and development of the Chinese salt industry.
