From September 11 to 12, 2020, the 4th IEEE Symposium on Emerging Technology of Transportation Electrification hosted by CPSS (China Power Supply Society) TEC (Transportation Electrification Committee) and IEEE TEC (Transportation Electrification Community), and undertaken by CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd. and EEA of Tsinghua University was held in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province. Professor Li Yongdong of EEA was the co-chairman of the symposium, and Associate Professor Zheng Zedong was the chairman of the organizing committee.

On September 11, Qiu Zhiming, an academician of Naval Equipment Research Institute, Sun Fengchun, an academician of Beijing Institute of Technology, Liu Youmei, an academician of CRRC ZELC, Ding Rongjun, an academician of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd., Wang Weian, Deputy Mayor of Zhuzhou Municipal People's Government, Bruno Lequesne, Chairman of IEEE TEC, Xu Dianguo, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology (online), Philip T. Krein, an academician of the US National Academy of Engineering, Liu Jinjun, Deputy Chairperson of CPSS, Li Yongdong, Vice President of New Concept Automotive Research Institute of Tsinghua University and a professor from EEA, and Feng Jianghua, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd., attended the opening ceremony. Academician Ding Rongjun chaired the conference.

At the forum

More than 100 experts and scholars from universities, research institutions and enterprises at home and abroad attended the forum, and more than 4,600 people participated online. Experts and scholars attending the meeting conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the key technologies, development trends, industry development and policy suggestions in transportation electrification.

Wang Weian attended the meeting and delivered a speech on behalf of the Zhuzhou Municipal People's Government. He hoped to take this forum as an opportunity to further gather high-end wisdom and industry consensus, and said Zhuzhou was willing to become a "test field" for the development of green transportation technology based on transportation electrification, promote the research and development of various technologies and industrial branches, improve the ecological environment and enhance the happiness and benefit of the people through electrified transportation.

Liu Jinjun attended the meeting and delivered a speech on behalf of CPSS. He hoped that all experts, scholars and businessmen would unite and work together to lead the development of the industry in the field of international transportation electrification.

Feng Jianghua attended the meeting and delivered a speech on behalf of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd. He says that transportation is an important area of energy consumption. With the rapid development of economy, the demand for transportation is increasing. CRRC Zhuzhou Institute will practice the development concept of "innovation, coordination, green and sharing" with a more open mind, gather the strength of the government, industries, universities and scientific research institutes to promote the development of electrified transportation industry, actively promote the transformation of related achievements, and open up a broader new world for the progress and development of transportation technology.

Totally 9 symposium reports and seven online open forum reports were arranged for this symposium. Present at the symposium are Xu Dianguo, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology, Philip T. Krein, an academician of NAE, Liu Jinjun, Deputy Chairperson of CPSS, Kang Yuanli, Deputy Chief Engineer of System Engineering of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd (COMAC), Zhang Yanqing, Deputy Director of the General Department of Magnetic Levitation and Electromagnetic Propulsion Technology of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, Wang Zhihan, Board Chairman of Qingtongjian Technology Group, Zhang Zhixue, a technical expert of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd. Qu Dongming, a rotating president of Qingdao TGOOD Electrical Co., Ltd., Yang Lianghui, head of power systems and open source platform business sector of National Innovation Centre of New Energy Vehicles, and other experts and scholars.

Philip T. Krein, an academician of American NAE, gave a report entitled "Electric Transportation Characteristics - Rethinking Charging Infrastructure" online.

Professor Xu Dianguo, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology, made a report entitled "High performance Control system of AC Motor: Current Situation and Prospect" online.

Liu Jinjun, Deputy Chairperson of CPSS and a professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University, made a report entitled "Communication-free Parallel Technology of Power Converters and the Application in Transportation Electrification System". He analyzes the future of the power system, the technical difficulties and solutions of communication-free parallel connection from the development trend, and summarizes and forecasts the challenges and application prospects of the power system in the future.

Kang Yuanli, Deputy Chief Engineer of COMAC System Engineering and head of the multi-power team of Beijing Aircraft Technology Research Institute, made a report entitled "Current Situation and Prospect of Civil Aircraft Electrification". She introduced the research status of multi-electric technology and the future development trend of hybrid power and electric propulsion technology, and called on domestic experts and scholars in power electronics and motor industry to make contributions in the field of electrified aircraft.

Zhang Yanqing, a researcher and Deputy Director of the General Department of Magnetic Levitation and Electromagnetic Propulsion Technology of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, made a report entitled "Research on Integrated Technology of Ultra-High Speed Superconducting Levitation Propulsion". She introduced the key problems in the integrated design of ultra-high speed superconducting levitation propulsion and summarized the main technical difficulties. She said that with the continuous development of Chinese science and technology, this technology will eventually be successfully applied, contributing to the realization of Chinese construction of a "powerful country in science and technology, aerospace and transportation".

Wang Zhihan, Board Cchairman of Qingtongjian Technology Group, made a report entitled "Technology and Application of Silicon Carbide Power Devices".

Zhang Zhixue, a technical expert from CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, made a report entitled "Research Progress of High Energy Efficiency Technology in Rail Transit". He introduced the necessity, development status and future trend of high energy efficiency rail transit technology research, and pointed out that the energy efficiency of rail transit system is strongly related to equipment suppliers, operators, inspection institutions, management departments and scientific research institutes, and required the concerted efforts of the whole industry.

Qu Dongming, a rotating president of Qingdao TGOOD Electrical Co., Ltd., made a report entitled "Intelligent Electrified Transportation Products and Technology Sharing".

Yang Lianghui, head of the power systems and open source platform business unit of the National Innovation Center of New Energy Vehicles, gave a report entitled "Test Platform for Silicon Carbide Power Modules at Vehicle Level - How to Get Through the Boarding Channel of Autonomous SIC Power Modules". He proposed to support Chinese independent chips, independent packaging, and independent design, rely on the linkage advantages of the national technological innovation platform industry and the basis of opening up the technical channel from design and development to on-board application of independent chips at the vehicle level, realize a good interaction between innovative technology and industry, create a sustainable industrial ecology based on Chinese independent technology, and provide a strong guarantee for the development of electrified transportation industry.

Interactive communication at the symposium

Finally, Professor Kang Jinsong from Tongji University released the information about the Fifth IEEE Symposium on Emerging Technology of Transportation Electrification.

Seven special reports were set up at the online open forum on December 12. made by Yuan Guofeng, an associate professor and President of Electrical Engineering Research Institute of North China University of Technology, Zhang Xiao, a senior electrical engineer of converters in CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, Xu Wei, a professor from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhou Minglei, an associate professor from School of Electrical Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University, Hu Shideng, an associate professor from School of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Mei Yunhui, a professor from School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin University, and Deng Erping, a teacher and supervisor of master's degree in North China Electric Power University. Topics at the symposium include traction control technology for speed-sensorless induction motor locomotives, development of new efficient boiling radiator for traction converter power module of high speed EMU, efficiency optimization control of linear induction motor for rail transit, magnetic weakening control of permanent magnet synchronous motor in rail transit, low inductance design and quality improvement of industrial converter products, research on double-sided interconnection package of high power density 1200V/600A IGBT modules, junction temperature measurement error and correction method caused by the delay of power cycle measurement, and some other technical issues.

The Symposium on Emerging Technology of Transportation Electrification, jointly initialized by EEA of Tsinghua University and the CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute in 2017, is the first interdisciplinary open forum in the field of transportation electrification in China. It has received a positive response from domestic universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises, and has been highly recognized by IEEE. At present, it is the only open academic forum on transportation electrification under IEEE.
