The 2018 IEEE PELS DC Microgrids Workshop was successfully held in Tsinghua University on May 25. This Workshop is an important international forum in the field of DC microgrid hosted by IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS). It was sponsored by the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University. The Beijing Branch of IEEE Power Electronics Society, China Electrotechnical Society (CES), Tsinghua Energy Internet Research Institute, State Key Laboratory for Safety Control and Simulation of Power Systems and Large Power Generation Equipment are the supporting units, and TBEA Xi’an Electric Technology Co., Ltd. is a partner. The theme of this international seminar is "Smart DC Microgrids for Cleaner Future".

At the Workshop, first of all, Prof. Xiao Xi, Vice Director of Department of Electrical Engineering, and Prof. Zhao Zhengming, Chairman of Beijing Branch of IEEE Power Electronics Society, delivered welcoming speeches on behalf of the sponsoring and supporting units respectively. Six experts from the electronic academic and industrial circles gave special academic reports on the latest research progress and technological achievements in the field of international DC microgrid. IEEE Fellow & Prof. Josep M. Guerrero of University of Albort, Denmark, gave a report entitled "Microgrids in Electric Ships and Seaports - is DC going back to the Sea?"; Prof. Yun Wei Li, University of Alberta, Canada, gave a report entitled "Power Quality Control in Smart AC/DC Microgrids"; Prof. Martin Ordonez, University of British Columbia, Canada, gave a report entitled "Impedence Detection and Extreme Dynamic Regulation in DC Grids”; Prof. Wu Caifu of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), made a report entitled "Direct Digital Control with D-Σ Processes for Multi-Function Converters in DC Microgrids"; Dr. Hao Xiang of TBEA Xinjiang Sunoasis Co., Ltd., made a report entitled "Smart Energy Router for Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids". Associate Prof. Sun Kai, Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, gave a report entitled "Power Electronics Techniques for Large Capacity Photovoltaic Generation Integrated into DC Grids". The Workshop was attended by 230 representatives from more than 60 universities, research institutes and enterprises at home and abroad. At the meeting or after the meeting, delegates and speakers discussed the frontier scientific issues and engineering difficulties in the field of DC microgrid in depth and warmly.

On the afternoon of the 25th, the participants and delegates visited the Department of Electrical Engineering and the State Key Laboratory for Safety Control and Simulation of Power Systems and Large Power Generation Equipment. Associate Profs. Song Qiang and Yu Zhanqing introduced the latest research achievements of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the field of DC Power Grid (control protection and real-time simulation technology of multi-terminal flexible DC transmission system, new DC circuit breakers, etc.). International experts at the Workshop highly appreciated this. They agreed that the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University is one of the leading research institutes in the field of DC power grid. The innovative achievements in this field in recent years have very high academic and engineering value.
