On the afternoon of May 17, 2018, Dr. Li Qifeng, Assistant Professor of the University of Central Florida, was invited to the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) for an academic visit and delivered a report entitled “Convex Optimization in Power Systems and Fluid Networks”. The report meeting was presided over by Gao Feng, Fellow and Director of Energy Data Analysis and Research Department, Research Institute for Energy Internet, Tsinghua University. More than a dozen graduate students from the DEE attended the meeting. Dr. Li's report mainly includes two parts. The first part mainly introduces the application of convex optimization method in power system and fluid system, such as convex optimization of power system optimal power flow equation, convex relaxation of natural gas network operation equation, etc. The second part describes the latest research results of optimal power flow optimization considering power system transient operation constraints. Finally, the participants held questions and heated discussions on the contents of the report.

Profile:

Dr. Li Qifeng was taught by Prof. Vijay Vittal, Member of the American National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and Director of the Power System Engineering Research Center (PSERC) in the United States. He also worked on doctoral researches in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2016 to 2018. He is currently appointed as assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Central Florida (UCF). Assistant Professor Li Qifeng's research direction is mainly the advanced non-linear optimization and non-linear control system technology and its application in power and energy systems, including microgrid optimization and control, optimal demand side management, energy-water-food nexus and so on.
