Biography

Zhengming ZHAO has obtained respectively the bachelor and master degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Hunan University in 1982 and 1985, and the Engineering Ph.D. in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1991. Then he stayed on to teach in the same year to date, during which he worked on postdoctoral research in USA, in the Ohio State University and University of California Irvine in 1994-1997; and then Senior Visiting Scholar and Research Professor successively in University of British Columbia and University of Hong Kong in 1998-1999. He is now professor, PhD Supervisor of Department of Electrical Engineering in Tsinghua University, and Vice Director of State key laboratory of power system. His additional posts include Executive Committee member of IEEE PELS, Membership Development Committee Chair of IEEE PELS, Beijing Chapter Chair of IEEE PELS, Vice President of Power Electronics Society of Chinese Electrotechnical Society, Vice President of Beijing Power Electronics Society, Member of National Ministry of Science and Technology of Wind Power Overall Project Expert Group, Overall Project Expert Group member of space solar power station system for State Administration of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense, WFEO Energy Committee solar energy expert group member, IET Fellow, etc.. He also serves as associate editor, editorial board member and assistant editor for various important domestic and overseas academic journals. His main research interests include high-power and high voltage power electronic technology, grid-connected photovoltaic power generation and its applications, motors and its control, wireless power transmission etc.. He has taken charge of and finished multiple national key projects, such as national “863” project, key and general program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as many scientific research projects supported by enterprise and international cooperation projects. Publication of more than 360 academic papers in the international academic journals, international conferences and domestic core journals, in which more than 200 papers are in EI index journals, more than 50 in SCI index journals. He is the author or co-author of 8 scientific and technical books. 35 authorized national patents for invention and 15 software copyrights are obtained. He has gained successively more than 10 provincial science and technology achievements and outstanding paper awards in international academic conferences more than once. 8 of his Ph.D. students have obtained outstanding doctoral dissertation award of Tsinghua University with his guidance and 4 of his Master students the outstanding master’s thesis award of Tsinghua University. He is IEEE Fellow and IET Fellow.

 Prof. Zhengming Zhao is the first author of 4 books. He has published more than 360 papers in which more than 30 in SCI index journals and more than 200 in EI index journals. He was awarded Outstanding Paper Award in ICEMS International Academic Conference 2014, Third Prize of Outstanding Paper Award in IEEE ECCE 2014, Outstanding Paper Award in ICEMS International Academic Conference 2011, Top 100 Outstanding Academic Papers published in Proceedings of the CSEE 2010, Best Paper Award of IEEE PEDG 2010, and Best Paper Award of China Automation Network.
