Biography

Received the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from Xinjiang University, Urumqi, China, the M.Sc. degree in Operation Research from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and the Ph.D. degree in Automatic Control from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1984, 1989, and 1996, respectively. Appointed as associate professor, professor at Tsinghua University, in 1999, and 2003, respectively. Meantime, he is a distinguished professor at Qinghai University, selected as IET Fellow in 2011, appointed as group leader of Innovation Group of National Natural Science Fund of China since 2013, and selected as IEEE fellow in 2014.He had been a visiting professor at National University of Singapore, Japan Sophia University, Brunel University, from 2001 to 2002. He has published more than 400 academic papers and 10 books.

Researches mainly focus on energy-power system security and high-efficient utilization. He has made significant and sustained contributions in the fields of nonlinear robust control of power system and self-organized criticality theory, which solve the scientific problems of nonlinear robust controller design and cascading failure identification. He initiated a new direction of engineering game theory and provided the new theory and technology for efficient integration of new energy resources. In addition, he has developed nonlinear robust controllers for large generators, active defense technology platform for cascading failures in AC-DC power systems and advanced heat-insulation compressed air energy storage system, which respectively broken through the technical bottlenecks of anti-interference excitation control for large generators, catastrophe prevention for interconnected power grids and large-scale efficient physical energy storage technology. The research results have been utilized in 26 provincial power systems in China, the west-to-east transmission system and hundreds of distributed energy systems.
