Biography

Chongqing Kang was born in Yongshou, Shanxi province, and moved to Qin'an, Gansu province in 1979. He was admitted to Tsinghua University from Qin'an No.1 High School in 1988 and received Bachelor's degrees of both Electrical Power Engineering and Environmental Engineering in 1993. He has been teaching at Tsinghua University since 1997, when he received Doctor's degrees of Electrical Power Engineering. He was appointed Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Department of Tsinghua University in 2000 and Professor in 2005. He is now Professor and Dean of Department of Electrical Engineering in Tsinghua University, President of Tsinghua University Energy Internet Research Institute, and President of Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute. He is also IEEE Fellow and IET Fellow. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Leading Talents in Scientific and Technological Innovation of the "Ten Thousands Talents Plan", New Century Excellent Investigator in Universities, and selected for the Program of the Fok Ying-Tong Education Foundation. He was a visiting scholar at University of Cambridge, UK from 2007 to 2008. His research interests include power system planning and operation, energy Internet, renewable energy, low-carbon electricity, power system load forecasting and electric market.

Prof. Chongqing Kang has been the PI of more than 10 programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China, including one JPI-NSFC Project, one Key Program for International Cooperation and Exchange, one China-EU Cooperation Research Project, one China-United Kingdom Joint Research Project, one NSFC and Texas A&M University Research Grant Program, and one China-Korea Joint Seminar. Three of them were awarded as Excellent Final Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2016,he was approved as the principal investigator for the project "Fundamental Theory of Planning and Operation for Power Systems with High Share of Renewable Energy Generations", which is a key project of "Smart Grid Technology and Equipment" of the National Key Research and Development Program of China.

Prof. Chongqing Kang is Deputy Scretary General, Chairman of Committee of Education and Youth, and Deputy Chairman of Committee of International Cooperation in CSEE (Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering). He is Vice President of Beijing Society of Electrical Engineering, and committee member of the Special Committee on Electrical Mathematics of CSEE, the Special Committee on Power System Control and Protection of the China Electrotechnical Society, and the Special Committee on Grid Connection of the China Renewable Energy Society. He is also the standing director of the Special Committee on Energy Internet of the Chinese Association of Automation. He currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the Editorial Committee of Electric Power; Vice Editor-in-Chief of Power System Protection and Control (China), Electric Power Construction, and Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems (PCMP); Editorial Board Member of Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy (MPCE), CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems (CSEE-JPES), Proceedings of Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering, Power System Technology, Automation & Equipment of Power System, et al.

Prof. Chongqing Kang currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems, Editorial Board Member of IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, Electric Power Systems Research, International Journal of Electric Power & Energy Systems and some other international journals. He also serves as Strategic Advisory Group Member of Cigre SC C1, Convenor of Working Group of Cigre SC C1.39, Chairman of the State Special Committee of China of Cigre SC C1, Long-Range Planning Committee Member of IEEE PES, and Fellows Nomination Resource Committee Member of IEEE PES.

Prof. Chongqing Kang is the first of 4 monographs and the co-author of 2 monographs. He has published more than 400 papers, among which over 100 have been indexed by SCI (including over 80 papers of IEEE Transactions) and over 300 indexed by EI. According to the statistics of Google Scholar, his papers has been cited for more than 12000 times with a H index of 53. The top single paper citation is more than 600. He was awarded one hundred most influential papers and top articles in outstanding S&T journal of China in both 2008 and 2012, and listed in Elsevier's Chinese Most Cited Researchers in 2017 and 2018. He has obtained more than 20 authorized invention patents (including 5 international patents) and 15 software Copyrights. He won Gold Medals at the 44th(2016) and 47th(2019) International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva. In 2014, he won Second Prize of National Teaching Achievements (as the first completion person). in 2014he won the second prize of national teaching achievement (as the 1st accomplisher). He was awarded the 2014 Global Power Energy Forecast Competition Winning Award by IEEE PES at the IEEE PES General Meeting in Denver, USA, July 2015. And at this meeting, he was invited to give an invited report at the Super Session. He was also awarded the 2018 China Electric Power Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award.
