Biography

Dr. Bin Wang joined the Dept. of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, China in July 2005 firstly as a Post Doctorial Fellow, and then as a Lecturer in 2007 after getting his Ph.D. degree from Shandong University, China in 2005. He serves as a Full-time Associate Professor from Oct. 2010. He had worked in AREVA T&D, UK as a “BOND” engineer in 2006, and in the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, USA as a visiting scholar in 2014.

Now, he is teaching classes of power system protection to graduate and postgraduate students, and also doing correlative research. He has recently been working on smart substation automation techniques based on IEC61850, fault locations, high impedance fault detections and impacts to protection and control by DGs insertions.

He is the CEng, and the International Professional Registration Advisor of IET since 2012, member of IEEE, CIGRE, CSEE, CAPS and the CIGRE WG B5.55 group. He has more than 80 research papers published in peer-reviewed top ranked journals and top class international conference. He has been the PI of more than 20 academic and industrial projects. He was awarded more than 10 research awards, including the 1st Prize of 2014 China Electric Power Technology Invention Award, and the 1st Prize of 2014 Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Award. He was the Chief Secretary and Session Chairman of 2011 IEEE APAP conference and 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013 China-Korea Relay Protection Forum.
