The opening ceremony of the 2026 Future Power and Energy (FPES) Summer School, hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, was held at the West Main Building on the morning of August 10. Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of the department; and Hu Zechun, Director of the summer school, attended the opening ceremony. More than 30 young students from universities around the world gathered at Tsinghua to embark on two weeks of learning and academic exchange. Hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering, this year's summer school focuses on new power systems and clean energy technologies. Through academic lectures, seminars, and technical visits, it provides young students in electrical engineering from around the world with a platform for academic exchange, mutual learning, and broader perspectives. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhang Pengcheng, a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Kang Chongqing Delivers Welcome Remarks
In his welcome remarks, Professor Kang Chongqing reviewed the development of the FPES Summer School since its launch in 2024 and highlighted its achievements in bringing together young students from around the world, promoting international academic exchange, and supporting outstanding students in pursuing further study. He noted that, driven by the global goal of carbon neutrality, power systems are undergoing profound transformations toward decarbonization and greater intelligence, placing higher demands on the younger generation of engineers and researchers in terms of interdisciplinary thinking and global collaboration. He encouraged the students to make the most of their time at Tsinghua, challenge conventional thinking, explore the unknown, and engage in academic exchange and discussion on innovative pathways toward a sustainable future for power and energy through the exchange of ideas across different cultural and academic backgrounds. He also wished the students a rewarding and enriching experience, productive exchanges, and an enjoyable stay throughout the summer school.

Hu Zechun Introduces the Summer School Program
Professor Hu Zechun provided an overview of Tsinghua University's international education and cooperation initiatives and gave a detailed introduction to the summer school's program and schedule. The summer school features a series of high-level academic lectures covering cutting-edge topics such as energy storage technologies, flexible energy use in data centers, wireless power transmission, AC and DC power transmission, solar power generation, power electronics, and applications of ferromagnetic materials. The program also includes courses offering hands-on experiences with Chinese culture, as well as visits to national key laboratories, electric vehicle charging and battery-swapping stations and their operation platforms, and cultural and technological sites including the Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall, together with a visit to a wind-solar-storage-transmission demonstration base and a data center in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province.
During the student introductions, participants from different countries spoke enthusiastically, expressing strong interest in Tsinghua's academic environment and traditional Chinese culture and looking forward to in-depth exchanges and mutual learning over the following two weeks.







Highlights from the Summer School
Through a combination of academic lectures, group discussions, and technical visits, the summer school gives participants first-hand exposure to cutting-edge developments in the field while helping them expand their international academic networks. As the global energy transition continues to accelerate, the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University is further deepening international educational cooperation and fostering future leaders in electrical engineering with a global outlook and strong innovative capabilities, contributing Tsinghua's expertise and talent to the advancement of power and energy systems worldwide.
