On November 17, the Department of Electrical Engineering held a discussion meeting on education, science, and talent work. More than 20 attendees, including members of the Party and administrative leadership team, directors of research institutes, heads of research teams, members of the Academic Committee and Teaching Committee, representatives from the Beijing and Sichuan campuses, and the National Key Laboratory of Operation and Control of New Power Systems, participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Zheng Zedong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Zheng Zedong delivered the opening remarks, introducing the background and objectives of the discussion meeting. He emphasized that, to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Party Congress, the Department of Electrical Engineering must closely align with the university’s deployment, scientifically develop the “15th Five-Year Plan” for the department, clarify development directions and implementation paths, and systematically advance the integrated reform of education, science, and talent.

Deputy Dean Sun Kai subsequently reported on the department’s achievements during the “14th Five-Year Plan” in areas including discipline construction, talent cultivation, team building, scientific research, social service, and international cooperation. He objectively analyzed existing problems and shortcomings, outlined the next steps, and introduced the preliminary division of tasks for the “15th Five-Year Plan,” laying a foundation for orderly advancement in the future.

Zhao Biao, Assistant to the Dean of the Department and Vice President of Ziqiang College, introduced the background of Ziqiang College’s establishment, analyzed the opportunities and challenges facing the current talent cultivation model, and provided an in-depth interpretation of the college’s training objectives, educational philosophy, and student affairs. Lin Jin, Party Secretary and Vice President of Weiyang College, focused on the Weiyang College training program and the teaching status of undergraduate students in the Department of Electrical Engineering, fully explaining the overall changes, basic structure, and core points of the 2025 curriculum, providing practical reference for optimizing the teaching system.

During the thematic discussion session, participants engaged in enthusiastic exchanges around three main directions: “Accelerating the Construction of an Innovative System for Chinese Universities,” “Deepening the Reform of Education and Teaching Evaluation,” and “Improving the International Talent Support and Guarantee System.” This further consolidated consensus and provided recommendations for the high-quality development of the department.

Kang Chongqing delivered the concluding remarks, stating that the department should systematically summarize the outcomes of the meeting, adhere to and strengthen the Party’s overall leadership, focus on core tasks such as discipline construction, talent cultivation, team building, and the development of international platforms, pay attention to addressing past work deficiencies, scientifically compile and implement the “15th Five-Year Plan,” advance the integrated development of education, science, and talent, and promote the department’s work to a new level.
