On the afternoon of July 1, the Young Teacher Salon and “Young Teacher Career Development Mentor System” meeting of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) was successfully held in Room 3-102 of the West Main Building. The meeting was attended by EEA Dean Kang Chongqing, Party Secretary Zheng Zedong, Senior Supervisor of Teacher Development Center Wang Yuanyuan, as well as EEA career development mentors and representatives of young teachers. The meeting was hosted by Wu Wenchuan, the EEA Party Committee Deputy Secretary.

At the Meeting
Zheng Zedong first reviewed and introduced in detail the goals and plan for the implementation of the Mentor system for young teachers in the department. As one of the first engineering departments in the school to implement the Mentor system, EEA began its active exploration in 2022. The aim is to help new teachers quickly adapt to their roles, clarify their career direction, and enhance their teaching and research capabilities through the “teach, help, lead” model, laying a solid foundation for their long-term development.

Speech by Zheng Zedong
The first group of appointed young teacher representatives, including Wu Jinpeng, shared their personal experiences under the Mentor system. They spoke about the invaluable guidance and help provided by development mentors in areas such as academic research, course teaching, and team building, and expressed sincere gratitude for the supportive platform built by the department.
Advisor representatives Sun Kai and Zhang Ning, drawing on years of mentoring experience, shared profound insights on how to deepen the Mentor system and enhance its effectiveness. They emphasized the core value of development mentors as “guiding” and “supporting.” Sun Kai provided systemic suggestions at the level of institutional design. Zhang Ning mentioned that the success of the Mentor system should be evaluated by whether it can achieve the standard of “students surpassing their teachers,” hoping that young teachers would grow into a core force surpassing their predecessors.
Kang Chongqing announced the list of development mentors for the 2024 new young teacher, Zhang Pengcheng, under the Mentor system. Development mentor representatives Zhu Guiping and Zhang Pinjia respectively gave speeches, sharing their insights on how young teachers can start their careers and achieve positive interaction between teaching and research. They also expressed their full support for the growth of new teachers. The meeting then proceeded with the development mentor appointment ceremony.

Development Mentor Appointment Ceremony
Wang Yuanyuan introduced the latest progress at the school level in advancing the development system for young teachers. The Teacher Development Center will continue to serve as a strong support, organizing diversified training and exchange activities, building cross-department communication platforms, and sharing successful experiences from other departments, to provide comprehensive support for the implementation and improvement of the Mentor system in the EEA.
Free Speech Session
During the free speech session, attending teachers actively communicated, and the atmosphere was lively. Several young teachers shared the specific help and profound experiences they received during their growth under the Mentor system.

Summary Speech by Kang Chongqing
At the end of the meeting, Kang Chongqing delivered a concluding speech, affirming the selfless dedication of the career development mentors and the rapid growth of young teachers. He encouraged young teachers to cherish opportunities, actively communicate with development mentors, learn proactively, and think critically. He also expressed higher expectations for the future development of young teachers and the EEA Mentor system: the personal development of young teachers should be closely aligned with the national strategic layout, keeping a sharp eye on the growth opportunities provided by the changing times. Young teachers should develop their own unique style while keeping up with the evolving educational environment. The Mentor system should also continue to improve and deepen, contributing more to the EEA and the university’s talent development system.
