On the afternoon of March 9, the General Faculty Meeting of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) was held in Lecture Hall 217, Zone 3, West Main Building. More than 70 members of the party and government team of EEA, as well as faculty members of the entire Department attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee. Li Jinliang, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Lan Min, Deputy Director of the Postgraduate Work Office of the Party Committee, Ding Li, Senior Director of the Cadre Education & Supervision Office of the Organization Department of the Party Committee, and Ding Chengxin, Senior Director of Security Affairs of the Security Department, were invited to attend the meeting.

During the session to grant certificates to associate professors titled under Prof. Zhang Mingtao and scholars titled under EEA’s motto “Be strict in learning and be upright in behaving”, Party Secretary Yu Xinjie introduced the establishment background and review process of the Foundation of Title under Prof. Zhang Mingtao, read out the list of first group of winners, and pointed out that this appointment ceremony symbolized the formal implementation of the system of chair professors and titled (associate) professors of EEA, Tsinghua University, which will effectively support the construction and development of EEA’s faculty team; on the other hand, the Program for “Young Strict & Upright Scholars” is established to cultivate top-notch future leading talents with high academic level, global vision and strong sense of social responsibility in innovation and scientific research. In the following leadership duty fulfillment report session, Yu Xinjie, secretary of the Party Committee of EEA, made a report on the work of the part committee of EEA in year 2022 year from the perspective of learning, publicizing and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, establishing a benchmark unit for party building, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Department, controlling and preventing pandemic spread, promoting central work, building party at grassroots, working for united front, masses and security, etc., and a personal duty fulfillment report. On behalf of the administrative team, the Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, reported on EEA’s achievements of the past year in terms of discipline construction, teaching and research, national key laboratories, think tank development, and team building, and he hoped all the faculty could be united for the same goals, keep learning, enhance communication and jointly march for a century-old department.

Wu Wenchuan, Zheng Zedong, deputy party secretaries of the department, and Zhu Guiping, Lu Chao, and Yu Zhanqing, deputy deans of the department, respectively reported on the work for labor unions, retirees, students, alumni, teaching, scientific research, finance, and foreign affairs. Ding Li, senior director of the Cadre Education & Supervision Office of the Organization Department of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, organized an on-site democratic assessment.

Gao Wensheng, executive vice president of the Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute of Tsinghua University (the Beijing Institute), and Lu Zongxiang, executive vice president of Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute (the Sichuan Institute), respectively reported on the completion of the annual work and outlook on the construction of talent team, scientific research progress, platform construction and university development supporting service. In 2022, the Beijing Institute hosted the “Energy Think Tank Report” and “Xinhua Energy Salon”, formed a three-dimensional media matrix and built a think tank brand; the Sichuan Institute was listed as one of the first group of “National Science and Technology Innovation” bases for industry-university-research cooperation, and all cooperation agreements were successfully renewed to extend the successful new model for university-local research and development cooperation.

In the policy presentation session, Li Jinliang, director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, interpreted the “2030 Global Strategy of Tsinghua University” with the title of “Prospects for International Cooperation and Exchanges”, and pointed out that international exchanges and cooperation are a core function of universities. He encouraged EEA to expand international exchanges and cooperation, build an international talent training system and further enhance global influence.

Lan Min, deputy director of the Postgraduate Work Office of the Party Committee, shared the ideological characteristics of postgraduate students, meaning and content of ideological and political work in the post-pandemic era, supportive resources for guiding students and Tsinghua’s arrangement for ideological and political work in 2023 with the title of “Understanding Students, Guiding Students and Making Progress with Students Together”. She encouraged all teachers to strengthen communication and interaction with the students, learn from good teachers in the university, and cultivate outstanding talents who can undertake great responsibilities in the new era.

Ding Chengxin, senior director of Security Affairs of the Security Department, taking “Preventing Telecom Network Fraud” as the topic and combining with the actual cases in Tsinghua University, deeply interpreted the typical characteristics of telecom fraud in recent years, explained some effective prevention methods and skills, and reminded teachers and students to always keep vigilant, improve own awareness and capabilities of fraud prevention and fraud detection, and stay away from telecom fraud.

The convening of the general faculty meeting has given all the faculty members a deeper understanding of the development of the University and the Department. In the new year, the teachers and students of the whole Department will unite and work hard to write a new chapter for high-quality development of the Department.
