On the morning of February 7, the State Grid—Tsinghua University Joint Research Institute of New Generation Power Systems held a leading group meeting in the West Main Building. Members of the leading group, including Guo Jianbo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Mei, director of the Science and Technology Department of the State Grid Corporation of China, Zhao Peng, second-level advisor of China Electric Power Research Institute, Zeng Rong, vice president of Tsinghua University, Yu Xinjie, secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics, Liang Xidong, dean of Weiyang Academy, Kang Chongqing, president of the Joint Research Institute, Gao Keli and Lu Chao, vice presidents of the Institute, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Chen Mei, director of the Science and Technology Department of the State Grid Corporation of China.

The participants listened to the summary report of Kang Chongqing, president of the Joint Research Institute, on the work in 2022, and reviewed the work in project implementation, personnel training, key cooperation, scientific and technological awards, academic activities, and promotion of new type power system construction. Kang Chongqing pointed out that in 2023, the Joint Research Institute will focus on optimizing the direction of project establishment, further improve the sharing of superior resources, strengthen academic exchanges, and promote high-quality cooperation projects and reward declarations.

The report was unanimously confirmed by the leading group of the Joint Research Institute and passed the review.

In the exchange session of the meeting, Academician Guo Jianbo pointed out that the Joint Research Institute should be different from general cooperative projects in terms of target positioning, personnel organization, and project implementation, and there should be a long-term layout for construction; Chen Mei proposed that the State Grid Corporation should be firm in unswervingly cooperating with universities in basic research, establish a constantly supporting mechanism for joint fund projects, and further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in joint talent training.

For the second-phase construction of the Joint Research Institute, Zeng Rong emphasized that the Joint Research Institute should represent the highest level of cooperation between the two parties, give full play to the facilities, technology and talents of both parties, combine with the reform of the national key laboratory, and position itself in a longer-term strategy to enhance innovation and solve major problems in the industry.

The meeting also considered the adjustment of the members of the leading group.

The convening of this meeting has laid a good foundation for strengthening the construction of the Joint Research Institute and magnifying the functions of the Joint Research Institute.
