From February 16 to 17, 2023, the 2022 National Energy Internet Conference and the 2022 Academic Annual Meeting of Energy Internet Committee of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), co-hosted Tsinghua University, China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., and the Energy Internet Committee of CSEE, were successfully held in Guangzhou.

At the conference

With the theme of “Building New-type Power Systems and Leading Zero-Carbon Sustainable Development”, the conference aims to implement the guiding spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important exposition on building a new-type power system with new energy as the main body and the solemn promise for “3060 Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality” at the Ninth Central Finance and Economics Conference, and actively respond to the opportunities and challenges of the energy Internet under the new situation. Nearly 800 people including Xiang Haiping, chief engineer of the National Energy Administration, Liu Yafang, deputy director of the Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department of the National Energy Administration, Li Xudong, deputy director of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Li Licheng, member of CSEE Academic Working Committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Jiang Yi, academician of CAE, Yu Jianguo, deputy director of the Expert Committee of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., and leaders, experts and representatives from the National Energy Administration, Tsinghua University, China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., energy Internet-related companies, scientific research institutes, societies and news media attended the conference.

Xiang Haiping delivered a speech

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Xiang Haiping, chief engineer of the National Energy Administration, delivered a speech first. He pointed out that in the face of the increasingly complex international situation and the new requirements of domestic development, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China: Actively and steadily promote carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, deepen the energy revolution, accelerate the planning and construction of a new-type energy system, and actively participate in the global governance of climate change. This puts forward new requirements for China’s energy work in the new era, and provides a fundamental basis for the development of China’s energy industry. He hopes that China Southern Power Grid Corporation, Tsinghua University, and the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering will further give full play to their respective business and professional advantages, form a joint force, promote technological innovation and system integration, and strive to promote the digital and intelligent upgrading of China’s energy industry. He also hopes that all experts and guests will take advantage of this conference to fully exchange ideas, discuss ideas, build consensus, and make greater contributions to the development of China’s energy industry and technological innovation.

Li Xudong delivered a speech

Li Xudong, deputy director of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, attended the conference and delivered a speech. He mentioned that under the strong leadership of the Central Party Committee, Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, the province’s science and technology system is thoroughly implementing the innovation-driven development strategy and actively integrating into the national science and technology strategic layout. He hoped that the participants could further maintain the good momentum of scientific and technological innovation, strengthen central-local cooperation, improve independent innovation capabilities, and enhance industry-university-research cooperation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. He also hopes that all units related could involve in various major science and technology breakthrough plans and the construction of an platform for innovation, make innovation and breakthroughs in the basic research of the energy industry and key core technology research, provides strong scientific and technological support for the high-quality development of the energy industry, and make more contributions to accelerating the construction of an international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the construction of a country of innovation.

Yu Jianguo delivered a speech

Yu Jianguo, deputy director of the Expert Committee of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., said in his speech that in the past year, China Southern Power Grid has actively implemented the “double carbon” goal, comprehensively built a new-type power system demonstration area, and fully guaranteed the consumption of renewable energy. The world-class Bay Area power grid with the highest proportion of clean energy consumption has significantly improved the level of green development. He pointed out that China Southern Power Grid will scientifically and orderly promote the construction of a new-type power system, promote the construction of a new energy system, improve both “hardware” and “software”, accelerate the digital and intelligent transformation of the power grid, support the accelerated development of new energy, and build a new-type power system with multi-energy synergy and complementarity, source-network-load-storage interaction and multi-network integration and interconnection.

Video Speech by Chairman You Zheng

Academician You Zheng, chairman of the National Energy Internet Industry and Technology Innovation Alliance, delivered a video speech. He pointed out that in the past six years, we have participated in the formulation of some energy standards, met the needs of technological innovation in the energy Internet field and prepared related documents, and actively participated in and promoted the implementation of many energy Internet demonstration projects. Academician You Zheng expressed his heartfelt thanks to all member units. He hoped that through this conference, all parties involved could have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the development status of the Internet industry and technology, pay attention to the new changes and new opportunities brought by dual carbon to the construction of energy Internet, and identify future goals and directions.

Academician Li Licheng delivered a keynote speech

Academician Li Licheng made a keynote report entitled “Thoughts on the Construction of Transparent Grid”. The report starts with the background of the transparent grid, introduces the research results of the transparent grid, including small and micro smart sensors, smart devices and equipment intelligence, and powerful software systems, and puts forward the thoughts on the next step in the construction of the transparent grid. He said that it is necessary to unswervingly develop intelligent sensing, realize intelligent information collection, focus on the development of intelligent equipment, and develop the “super brain” of the power grid.

Academician Jiang Yi delivered a keynote speech

Academician Jiang Yi delivered a keynote report titled “Full Exploitation and Utilization of Terminal Resources to Solve the Difficulties of Wind Power and Photovoltaic Power Consumption”. He analyzed the new problems brought about by the change of power supply structure, proposed to use terminals such as private cars and buildings to undertake peak-shaving tasks, and proposed a power grid regulation method using dynamic carbon emission responsibility factors.

Keynote reports at the conference

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Gao Wensheng, Secretary-General of the Alliance. During the conference, Gao Feng, vice president of the Energy Internet Innovation Institute of Tsinghua University, released the “2022 Annual Report on National Energy Internet Development”. This report systematically and comprehensively displays the latest developments and current situation of China’s energy Internet, aiming to promote the academic research, technological innovation, and faster and healthier development of the energy Internet, to consolidate the consensus of the society on the energy Internet, and to provide basic and forward-looking thinking for government, enterprises and research institutions. In the keynote report session of the conference, Liu Yongdong, Vice Secretary-General of China Electricity Council, Liu Shiyu, Assistant President of Electric Power Planning & Design Institute Co., Ltd., Li Yuanyuan, Deputy General Manager of the Southern Power Grid Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., Li Yuquan, Assistant General Manager and Director of the Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. of the State Power Investment Group, and Chen Qixin, Tenured Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University and Vice President of the Tsinghua University Institute of Energy Internet Innovation, respectively made keynote reports on “Construction of System for New Type Power Grid Standards”, “Development Prospect of New Type Power Systems in China under Dual Carbon Strategy”, “Energy Cloud of South Power Grid Helping to Construct New Type Energy Systems”, “Technology Innovation and Green Demonstration of New Type Energy Storage”, and “Construction of Power Market Adapted to the New Type Power System”.

Xinhua Energy Salon

A Xinhua Energy Salon titled “Energy Transformation Drives Green and High-Quality Development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area — Green Transportation” was also held at the conference. Experts from China Economic Information Network of Xinhua News Agency, Institute of Quantitative Economics and Technical Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and fields of green transportation gathered to discuss the industrial development of new energy vehicles in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Under the topics of industrial technology innovation and engineering application, trends and key technologies of energy IoT development, energy digitization, renewable energy hydrogenation technology, power carbon neutralization, and new type power systems, the conference organized six forums for extensive and in-depth discussions and exchanges. Among them, the Energy Internet Committee of CSEE hosted a Forum on Traffic and Energy Integration and invited Wang Wen, Vice President of the State Grid Intelligent Vehicle Network Technology Co., Ltd., Professor Huang Xueliang of Southeast University, Professor Guo Qinglai and Researcher Li Xiaqian of Tsinghua University, Professor Ma Jing of North China Electric Power University, and Professor Mu Yunfei of Tianjin University to give academic reports titled “The Key to Traffic and Energy Integration: Safe Vehicle Network Interaction Technology”, “Analysis and Prospect of Electric Vehicle and Power Grid Interaction under the Background of New Type Power System”, “Exploration on the Collaboration Problem between Power Grid and Traffic Network from the Perspective of Information-Physical-Social Fusion”, “Key Technologies and Practices of Flexible DC Traction Power Supply System for Urban Rail Transit”, “Research on Elastic Recovery Technology of Self-Synchronous Energy System for Highway Traffic” and “Research on Vehicle Network Interaction Control Technology under the Integration of Power and Traffic”.

Awarding Ceremony and Commendation

The conference held a licensing ceremony for the newly established energy storage application committee and green transportation committee of the alliance, and commended outstanding cooperative units and outstanding experts in 2022.

The successful convening of the conference has built an interdisciplinary and cross-industry academic exchange platform for scientific research institutes, enterprises, universities, social organizations, and financial institutions in domestic energy-related fields, providing strong support for the high-quality development of the energy industry.
