From November 13 to 17, 2022, the Global Electromagnetics Conference (GLOBALEM 2022), hosted by Directed Energy Research Center (DERC), part of the Abu Dhabi Technology Innovation Institute (TII), was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Li Quanxin, a postdoctoral fellow of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University, won the Young Scientist Award for his outstanding research achievement in modeling and measurement of lightning return strokes and M-components.

Li Quanxin won an award at GLOBALEM 2022

The GLOBALEM conference has a long history starting from the Nuclear Electromagnetics (NEM) conference held in the United States in 1978 and funded by the Summa Foundation. It has successively developed into the High Power Electromagnetics (HPEM) conference, the European Electromagnetics (EUROEM) Conference, and the American Electromagnetics (AMEREM) conference. It was named Asian Electromagnetics (AISAEM) for the first time in South Korea in 2015 and renamed GLOBALEM in UAE in 2022.

In addition, Dr. Li Quanxin was also granted the Young Scientist Diploma at the 36th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP 2022) held in Cape Town, South Africa from October 2 to 7, 2022. The ICLP, firstly held in Bavaria, Germany in 1951, is held in Europe mainly every two years. It is the most famous international conference in the field of lightning protection.

Li Quanxin, Ph.D. and assistant researcher (postdoctoral fellow) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics of Tsinghua University, received his Ph.D. from Wuhan University in 2019. He has studied and worked at EPFL cole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and Wuhan University successively, and is mainly engaged in the research on lightning protection and electromagnetic compatibility of power systems. He has published more than 40 papers in SCI journals, including 16 papers as the first/corresponding author and 2 journal cover papers. He has presided over many scientific research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, postdoctoral science foundation and enterprises. He was granted the honour of excellent bachelor's degree thesis advisor of Wuhan University in 2021, and was invited to serve as an expert in CIGRE C6.41, C4.69, C4.70 and C4 .67 working groups.
