Professor Ci Song from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University was elected the 2023 IEEE Fellow for his contributions to reconfigurable electric vehicle batteries.

Ci Song is now a researcher of EEA, Tsinghua University, a national-level talent, director of the Ministry of Education  China Mobile Joint Laboratory of Information and Energy, a well-known expert in the field of energy Internet, chief scientist of the China Energy Internet Development Strategy Research Group of the National Energy Administration, head of the pre-research group of the Energy Internet Action Plan of the National Energy Administration, a Global Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, and a former tenured professor at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Ci Song has long been engaged in the research of complex system modeling, control and optimization theory and the application technology in large-scale energy storage of information Internet and energy Internet. He has presided over or undertaken many national science and technology projects. So far, he has published more than 300 papers and applied for more than 100 patents in the above fields. He is the first to propose a digital energy storage technology system in the world, which fundamentally solves the industrial bottleneck in intrinsic safety, economy, and cascade utilization of battery energy storage systems, which is a disruptive technology in the field of energy Internet. He is mainly engaged in large-scale complex system modeling and optimization theory and their application in information Internet and energy Internet. He has presided over many national scientific research projects in China, and is a member of the editorial board or specially invited member of the editorial board of many top international journals, chairman or member of the technical procedure committee of many conferences, senior member of IEEE and member of ACM.

IEEE, an international society of electronic technology and information science engineers, has more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries, leading the latest progress in the technical fields of signal and information processing, electric power, electronics, computer, communication, control, remote sensing, biomedicine, intelligent transport and aerospace.

Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors will upgrade a group of selected members to IEEE Fellows in accordance with strict assessment procedures, and the fellows must have made significant contributions to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology. IEEE stipulates that the number of elected members shall not exceed 0.1% of the total number of IEEE members in that year, and about 300 people have been elected each year in the recent ten years.

IEEE Fellow is the highest honor granted by IEEE to its members, and is recognized as an authoritative honor and important professional achievement in the academic and technological circles.
