On August 6-7, 2022, the 6th Forum of Doctors of Engineering of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University was successfully held in Xining, Qinghai. Professor Kang Chongqing, Professor Zhu Guiping, Professor Mei Shengwei, Professor Li Yongdong, Professor Zhou Yuanxiang, Professor Zhang Guixin, Professor Zhang Bo and Associate Professor Lu Zongxiang of EEA, Zhang Jindan from the Graduate Teaching Office, and nearly 20 doctoral students of engineering attended the forum. The forum was presided over by Gao Wensheng, a Ph.D. professor of engineering of EEA.

First of all, Li Sheng, Deputy General Manager of State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company, and Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics of Tsinghua University delivered speeches respectively, congratulating the successful convening of the 6th Forum of Doctors of Engineering, and thanking the guests, industrial instructors and students for their active participation. Professor Kang Chongqing put forward ardent expectation for the doctoral students of the Department of Electrical Engineering to recognize the national key development direction, pay attention to engineering technology innovation and cross-integration, hoping them to find true problems and truly solve problems in research.

Secondly, Professor Mei Shengwei made an expert report entitled “Jiangsu Jintan Salt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storage Power Station: Technical Research and Engineering Practice”, introducing the development history, key technologies of compressed air energy storage and the construction and operation of compressed air energy storage power station in Jiangsu Jintan Salt Cave. He also outlined the future of compressed air energy storage.

Afterwards, Guo Lingxu, doctor of engineering admitted in 2018, Dong Yu, Hui Yannian and Dong Ling, doctors of engineering admitted in 2019, gave special reports titled “Power Dispatching Metaverse Architecture and Key Technology Exploration”, “State Grid Operation Status and Challenges”, “Research on Hybrid Power Aircraft Design Technology” and “Key Technologies of Provincial Long-cycle Clean Energy Power Supply” to share the phased results of thesis research, and the participating supervisors gave guidance and suggestions, especially in the implementation of the research results and the improvement of the thesis structure, which also guides junior doctoral students of engineering to carry out their thesis work smoothly in the future.

After the forum report, all teachers and students visited the Comprehensive Solar Energy Utilization Base of Qinghai University.

On the afternoon of August , the teachers and students went to the State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company and held a symposium themed “Clean energy development and new power system construction”. The symposium was chaired by Qian Qinglin, General Manager of Qinghai Electric Power Company. The two parties respectively introduced the development of clean energy and power grid in Qinghai, the construction of Qinghai’s new power system demonstration zone, and the relevant research results of EEA in the new power system, and made in-depth exchanges. Afterwards, all the teachers and students visited the Qingnan UHV converter station of Qinghai Electric Power Company, the 50MW CSP (concentrated solar power) station located in Gonghe County, Qinghai Province, and the high-altitude and high-voltage experimental hall.

The successful convening of this forum has received strong support from State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company and Qinghai University, and it provided a valuable academic exchange opportunity for the high-quality training of doctoral students of engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering, allowing students to have a comprehensive understanding of the development of Qinghai’s green and clean energy industry.

“EEA’s Forum of Doctors of Engineering” is an academic exchange platform for teachers and students organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics and freely established by doctoral students of engineering, usually held once every three months. The forum encourages students to report the progress of their dissertations and present their research results, aiming to strengthen the management of the engineering doctoral training process, stimulate innovative thinking, and promote project cooperation. Since December 2020, EEA has successfully held six forum of doctors of engineering in Beijing, Changzhou, Qingdao, Chengdu (online), Fuzhou (online), and Xining.
