The establishment meeting of the Southwest Branch of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University was opened in Chengdu, Sichuan. Shi Zongkai, Deputy Director of the Committe of University Affairs of Tsinghua University, Vice President of Tsinghua Alumni Association, Yu Xinjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Vice President of the Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association, and Zheng Zedong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Secretary-General of the Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Alumni Association attended the meeting. Yan Jiajin, Zhang Quan, Gao Wensheng and other alumni representatives of the Department of Electrical Engineering working in the southwest region attended the establishment meeting. The meeting was chaired by Liu Yi, Vice President of Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute.

At the meeting, teacher Shi Zongkai expressed congratulations on the establishment of the Southwest Branch on behalf of Tsinghua Alumni Association. He said that Tsinghua has always attached great importance to alumni development and alumni service, and the university's talent training and scientific research development also benefited a lot from the alumni. The establishment of the Branch will become an important starting point for the Alumni Association in enhancing the cohesion and development of regional alumni. He hope that the Branch can play a role model in strengthening the integration with the Department.

Teacher Yu Xinjie said that the establishment of the Branch is of great significance to strengthen the relationship between the Department and alumni, and carry out alumni work extensively. On behalf of the Department of Electrical Engineering, he congratulated the establishment of the Branch, and hoped that the Branch would serve more for regional alumni under the concept of the Great Southwest, enhance the cohesion of alumni, and promote the development of disciplines.

The meeting released the "Decision on the Establishment of the Southwest Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University", and reviewed and passed the "Working Principles for the Southwest Branch of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University". In the meeting, Yu Xinjie announced the approval of the Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University for appointing Yan Jiajin as the Chairman of the Southwest Branch and Gao Wensheng as the Executive Chairman, and presided over the election of the members of the council of Sichuan (Chengdu) Alumni Association of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University.

Yan Jiajin, the newly elected chairman of the Southwest Branch and a Grade 1965 alumnus of the Department of Electrical Engineering, delivered a passionate speech. He hoped that alumni in the Southwest would be continuously contacted and united to concentrate the sentiment in Tsinghua and stimulate the positive energy. He also hoped that more platforms among alumni, between alumni and school, and between alumni and society would be built to enhance the relationship between alumni and the alma mater and among alumni, strengthen the connection with the alma mater, and promote the common development of alumni and the alma mater.
