At the meeting, Professor Goran Strbac, Academician Tim Green, and Associate Professor Zhang Ning reviewed and summarized the work carried out by the Research Centre in 2020 on behalf of Imperial College London and Tsinghua University respectively. In terms of project cooperation, the two parties held the seminar of the National Natural Science Foundation International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Project "Urban Energy System Sustainable Development: Policy Design, Operational Optimization and Market Coordination" in May, and the meeting for initializing the National Natural Science Foundation International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Project "Basic Research on Transformation Equipment Interaction and Flexible Regulation in Urban Smart Distribution Networks" in August this year; in terms of academic conferences, Associate Professor Zhang Ning hosted a seminar themed "Integration of Low-Carbon and Multi-Energy Systems" in the annual conference of IEEE PES as a branch chairman, in which, Professor Goran Strbac made a special report. In October this year, the two parties will participate in the 2020 Conference of IEEE ISGT Europe, and will be invited as speakers to give academic reports at the symposium entitled "Coordination of Flexible Producers and Consumers in Integrated Urban Energy Systems"; in terms of mutual visits between teachers and students , Huang Wujing, a doctoral student from Tsinghua University, went to Imperial College London for a three-month academic exchange. In September this year, Imperial College sent a doctoral student Chu Zhongda to Tsinghua University for exchange study; in terms of dissertation publication, the two parties cooperated in the fields including integrated energy systems, low inertia power system, 5G and energy Internet and load probability forecast and published many high-level dissertations.

Then, Assistant Professor Teng Fei, Postdoctoral Fellow Zhang Xi, and Postdoctoral Fellow Spyros Giannelos made the academic reports and shared the latest research progress of Imperial College on "Resilient Operation of Power Systems under Cyberattacks", "Provision of resilience by multi-energy micro grids" and " "Planning under uncertainty" respectively, Associate Professor Lu Zongxiang, Associate Professor Sun Kai and Postdoctoral Fellow Li Kangping from the Department of Electrical Engineering made the academic reported titled "Investigation of the Role of Flexibility Resources in Power System Transition based on Extended Global Sensitivity Analysis", "PV-BESS-EV-Hydrogen DC Microgrid for Urban Energy Internet" and "Synchronous Pattern Matching Principle-Based Residential Demand Response Baseline Load Estimation" and introduced Tsinghua’s research achievement in power system flexibility, integrated energy micro-grid systems, demand response baseline load estimation and so on.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties discussed how to advance the development of the joint research centre, future research plans, and how to further strengthen cooperation and exchanges. Professor Goran Strbac made a summary of the meeting.

Since its establishment in March 2019, the joint research centre has carried out cooperative research in various fields including integrated energy systems, low inertia power systems, information security, electronized power systems and so on, and been awarded 2 international (regional) cooperation and exchange projects by the National Natural Science Foundation. The world is masked due to the pandemic in 2020, but the cooperation between the two parties sides will continue through online discussions and other means. The successful convening of this meeting played an important role in promoting the development of the joint research centre. Tsinghua University and Imperial College London are highly complementary in the research of smart power and energy systems, and the joint research centre will continue to leverage the advantages of both parties, learn from each other, and promote the research in related fields.
