Biography

Lu Qiang (May 1936- ), Male. Graduated from Electrical Engineering Department of Tsinghua University in1959. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Science, IEEE Fellow, professor of Electrical Engineering Department of Tsinghua University.

Prof. Lu is regarded as the pioneer and founder of nonlinear optimal control science of power systems at home and abroad. He has published five monographs, among which, the English one was published via Kluwer Academic Publishers (U.S.A). The awards he obtained include: the Second Grade of Natural Science Award of China (twice), the First Grade Award of National Excellent Science and Technology Book, The First Grade of Military Science and Technology Progress Award, the special grade of National Excellent Teaching Achievement Award,Outstanding Individual Award for the State Key Foundational Research Project (973 Project) etc.

He once acted as the chief scientist of State Key Foundational Research Project (1998-2002), and presided over two important projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, on “Decentralized Nonlinear Control Theory and Application to Power Systems” and “Intelligent Control of Power Systems”. He was the principal of the project of “Nonlinear Robust Control of Power Systems” which is a Cross-discipline Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the principal of the project of “Application of Nonlinear Control to the Three Gorges Hydroelectric Station” which is a National Key Science and Technology Tackling Project. Recently, he developed Hybrid Control Theory of Power Systems and applied it into Smart Northeast Power Grid of China, Smart-EMS in Shanghai Power Grid, etc.
