Course Description:

The course is closely associated with the latest research in power transmission and distribution in China, the purpose of which is to introduce the basic theory, key technology and the newest development of power transmission and distribution system. The course includes three sections: (1) Fundamental knowledge of power transmission(overview、key parameters of transmission system, analysis of transmission capacity); (2) monographic study of power transmission system(key equipments, electromagnetic environmental analysis, external insulation, Over-voltage and protection); (3) monographic study of power distribution system(key equipments, basic structure of power distribution system, distribution automation and management system ). Students will form project team to learn materials and solve relative problems under the guidance of advisor, who will introduce the background、 project profiles and the difficulties. It is useful for students to improve the ability of solve practical engineering problems applying the theories of the textbook.

2.Parameter Analysis of Transmission Line.

3.Transmission capacity analysis of Transmission Line.

4.The key equipment for power transmission system.

5.Electromagnetic Environment Analysis of power transmission system.

6.External insulation of Transmission Line.

7.Over-voltage and protection of power transmission system.

8. The basic structure of power distribution system.

9.The key equipment for power distribution system.

10.Design and implementation of Distribution Automation System.


lTransmission capacity analysis and contrast of compact transmission line and conventional transmission line

 Students write their own calculation program based on the power transmission theory.

lResearch on electro-magnetic environment of the first 1000 kV transmission line in China

Students learn to use EME calculation program and implement the compute, including the Surface field strength、 Radio Interference 、Audible noise and Corona Loss.

lEME measurement of 500kV compact transmission line

 Students use the electro-magnetic field sensor to measure fields under 500 kV transmission line.

lAnalysis of transmission line struck by lightning

 Students learn to use PSCAD and build the model of transmission line. Analyse the strikes under different conditions. 

Course Assessment:

  Research report of the projects, 100 points.
