Received the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from Xinjiang University, Urumqi, China, the M.Sc. degree in Operation Research from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and the Ph.D. degree in Automatic Control from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1984, 1989, and 1996, respectively. Appointed as associate professor, professor at Tsinghua University, in 1999, and 2003, respectively. Meantime, he is a distinguished professor at Qinghai University, the Specially Appointed Professor of Chang Jiang Scholars Program since 2009, a winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2005, selected as IEF Fellow in 2011, appointed as research leader of Innovation Group of National Natural Science Fund of China since 2013, and selected as IEEE fellow in 2014.He had been a visiting professor at National University of Singapore, Japan Sophia University, Brunel University, from 2001 to 2002. He has published more than 400 academic papers and 9 books.
His current research interests include power system robust control, complex power grid theory, power system collapse prevention, and new energy power systems.  He established power system nonlinear robust control theory and self-organized criticality theory, proposed a power system transient analysis method based on semi-tensor product, and scheduling control methods new energy power system based on game theory, solved two major scientific problems including construction of power system nonlinear robust controller and identification of cascading failure mechanism. He developed nonlinear robust generator excitation controller, nonlinear active filter and no fire compressed air energy storage system, which break through three technology bottlenecks including the interference defense generator excitation control, power quality governance of distributed network, and efficient physical storage, the results have been applied to a plurality of power systems and several defense projects in China.
