The Professors and Students of Department of Electrical Engineering Attended the International Conference on Power Electronics and Electrical Sciences and Held an Alumni Reunion Activities

During September 18 to 22, in 2016, the 2016 Energy Conversion Conference & Exhibition was co-sponsored by the IEEE Power Electronics Society (IEEE PELS) and the IEEE Industry Application Society (IEEE IAS), in Milwaukee, United States. The annual meeting, held every year in North America, is the most influential international top conference in power electronics and motor field. This year, the conference contained more than 920 papers, from more than 1,400 of the global power electronics, motor field of academia and industry representatives. The chairman of the conference was Tsinghua University’s alumni, Professor John Shen of the Illinois Institute of Technology. Assistant Professor Zhao Tie Fu, North Carolina University, Charlotte University, who is a friend of Department of Electrical Engineering, served as chairman of the publishing committee.

The General Assembly of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation of a total of 10 papers were accepted. A total of more than 10 teachers and students attended the meeting, showing the latest scientific research of Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation.

During the meeting, Professor Zhao Zhengming, as executive committee of IEEE PELS and chairman of PELS Beijing Chapter, participated in a number of important meetings of PELS and in the development of PELS2030 action plan. And he, as representative of Tsinghua University, officially received the 2018 IEEE International Energy Challenge (IFEC2018). Associate Professor Zhang Pingjia, as a power transmission program subcommittee member of the meeting, participated in the organization of the paper review work. Associate Professor Sun Kai attended the PELS Membership Committee and the PELS Chapter on behalf of the China Region and PELS Beijing Chapter. He also received a letter of thanks from the IAS Chairman for volunteer service in the IEEE IAS Excellence Paper Review.

Prior to the meeting, Professor Li Yongdong and Associate Professor Zheng Zedong were invited to visit the University of Virginia Polytechnic University CPES, the University of North Carolina FREEDM, and Tennessee University CURENT, three engineering research centers funded by National Natural Science Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Madison. Professor Li Yongdong was invited to present an academic report on the topology and control of the multi-level converter at the CURENT Center. Prof. Kevin Tomsovic, Director of the CURENT Center, Prof Yilu Liu, Deputy Director of the CURENT Research Center and Academician of the US Academy of Engineering, Prof Fred Wang, Deputy Director of the Center, and more than 70 people attended the conference.

On the evening of September 20, 2016, nearly 50 Tsinghua alumni held exchanges and gatherings under the chairmanship of Professor Li Yongdong, Professor Zhao Zhengming and Associate Professor Zheng Zedong. Exchange activities also invited Li Zeyuan (Fred C. Lee), the Visiting Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering famous scholars in power electronics and electrical field took part in. The alumni who attended the party took a picture at the venue.
