Department of Electrical Engineering has Ph.D. program grants Ph.D. Degree for Electrical Engineering for 3~5 year Ph.D. program. Most of the Ph.D. students at Department of Electrical Engineering are enrolled from graduates with Bachelor Degree, who are recommended students for direct admission (with only interview). Some academic-oriented master student could join the Ph.D. program according to their scores in the entrance tests.
The goal of Ph.D. program is to make students gain abilities necessary for independent scientific research, which might be useful for conducting research works in universities or research institutes.
Among the key steps for Ph.D. program at Department of Electrical Engineering, the topic selection report, the final academic report, and the defense are of great importance. The advisor of the student takes fully responsible for course selection and other thesis related activities.
28 credits are required for the degree courses of Ph.D. students with only Bachelor Degrees and 13 credits for those with Mater Degrees.

The qualifying test is carried out in the third semester. The literature review and topic selection report is one of the key steps for Ph.D. program. One year later, the same committee will inspect the progress of the scheduled research plan and give comments and suggestions accordingly. Final academic report is given three months before final defense. Before the final defense, Ph.D. candidates should publish academic papers related to his/her research topic on journals or important conferences In addition to the above requirements, Ph.D. students should report their research progresses publically in related fields in every semester and attend at least 30 academic lectures.
